Most people's earliest memories come from preschool or toddlerhood, so it's not often that you hear about someone recalling what it was like in the womb.
When TikToker @funcoolhappygirl told her mom that she remembered being in the womb, her mom didn't laugh it off or tell her that she was imagining things.
Instead, her mom agreed, much to her surprise.
Naturally, she asked her mom why she believed her, and her mom explained that when she was pregnant with one of @funcoolhappygirl's younger sisters, her tiny self had pointed to her belly and said that she remembered being inside there.
Her mom had tried to test if she was just making up a story, so she asked @funcoolhappygirl what she was doing in there, if she actually recalled being in the womb.
Without skipping a beat, she replied that she had been playing with her hands. Her mom was freaked out by her answer because that detail seemed too specific to be the imagination of a small child.
"And that's exactly the memory that I have," @funcoolhappygirl said. "I remember just being in the womb and the lighting being interesting, and I was just playing with my hands."
So, when people ask her what her first memory is, she tells them it's from the womb. After the womb, her first memory would be getting her ears pierced.
As unusual as her story sounds, many parents flooded the comments section with their own eerily similar experiences. Suddenly, womb memories didn't seem so far-fetched.

"My daughter has done this, too!!!!! She pointed to a fish in a tank at age two and said, 'That's what I used to do in your belly when I picked you.' Like, girl, what??" exclaimed one parent.
"My son said he liked being in my belly, and he didn't want to come out because he liked being cozy. He was a week overdue, and I had to be induced at 41 weeks," shared another.
"I had a two-year-old in class who would always hide in my bright red curtains, and she would say it was just like her mommy's belly. She talked about it being warm and light. I found it interesting she only ever played 'mommy's belly' with my red curtains," commented someone else.
"My autistic five-year-old is obsessed with outer space and got really fixated on black holes. He's been insistent that he came from one, and I'm the one who pulled him out. He has a really good memory, so I wonder if he's remembering being born," chimed in a fourth.
Kids say the darndest things, but sometimes, what they say has a layer of truth that makes you question everything you thought you knew about memory and consciousness.
