One weekend, TikToker @yelak_yelrah went to the mall with her three kids and her husband. They were headed to the Lego store. In the mall, there was also a Louis Vuitton store.
Her husband suggested that she walk in and check out the bag she had been wanting. He stayed outside on a bench with the kids.
"Now, I must say a lot of people, or I have heard people complain about luxury store sales associates being rude depending on how you look, and to clarify the situation, I was going to the Lego store with my kids, so I was in a hoodie and jeans, and my jeans had a big rip in the knee, and I had on sneakers," she explained.
Someone immediately approached her to offer some help. The sales associate was super helpful and friendly. She decided to buy a bag that had been discontinued. She also bought a pair of sunglasses.
While waiting for her stuff to be checked out, a girl walked in and sat on one of the couches. She gave @yelak_yelrah a dirty look, obviously unimpressed by what she was wearing. It happened multiple times in the span of 10 to 15 minutes.
When a sales associate came over to the girl to show her some scarves, she looked at @yelak_yelrah and smirked, as if to say that she could never afford anything at a luxury brand.
Finally, the sales associate came out with @yelak_yelrah's bags. The girl was surprised to see that she had actually made a purchase.
When the girl heard that @yelak_yelrah had bought the discontinued bag and that it was the last bag in the country, she was suddenly interested in @yelak_yelrah.
The girl's audacity had rubbed @yelak_yelrah the wrong way. She pointed out that every single person deserves basic human decency and respect.

They shouldn't be judged by the way they look.
"At the end of the day, I guess the moral of the story is to be a kind human being, treat people with respect, and mind your own business," she concluded.
Many TikTok users shared their own stories about being judged in stores just because of their appearances.
"I dress down to serious shop. Three sales associates passed over me. I needed a house full of furniture. Finally, the sweetest lady helped me. Fourteen thousand dollars later, she was smiling. I only shopped with her there after!! The others would run up to me after that. I gave them their original energy back!" exclaimed one user.
"My husband always gets me something from a luxury store for Christmas. He is a crane operator. He wears jeans. Sometimes, people will not wait on him. Don't judge a book by its cover," wrote another.
"I worked for an interior designer who had a very, very wealthy client, but if you saw them on the street, they might have been mistaken for a homeless person. Taught me never to judge," stated a third.
