Last summer, a 26-year-old woman got engaged to her 27-year-old boyfriend. She picked out a wedding date that she set for next year.

She’s planning on spending a good amount of money on her wedding, and she will be paying for everything all on her own; without any help from her parents.

Several months after her boyfriend got down on one knee, she thought it might be a good idea to get married without telling anyone.

“A few months after getting engaged, we got the idea to get legally married in secret on what would be the same date as the wedding but in 2022 while still planning the ceremony and reception,” she explained.

“The reason for that is that there was a family tragedy in my husband’s family recently, and I began to fear something happening to either of us and not having those spousal rights.”

Another reason she wanted to go ahead with getting married was that she could get her husband on her insurance, which was far better than the one he had.

So, they did get secretly married, while she was on her lunch break one day. She had a stranger be their witness, and she and her husband never told a soul.

Well, she did tell her sister, but that was the only person who knew that she got secretly married, and her sister kept her secret, though she didn’t agree with her decision at all.

“We are still actively planning our wedding and want everyone to be a part of it, but we don’t have the money (yet) to have had the wedding the day we got legally married,” she said.

“However, in my excitement at being a Mrs. I jumped the gun and began changing my name right away on my bank accounts and Social Security.”

And changing her last name was exactly how her mom and dad learned about her little secret.

It all happened when she sent her mom money through a payment app, and her mom noticed that she had the same last name as her husband.

Her mom quickly confronted her and wanted to know if she actually already had gotten married, and she didn’t lie.

She revealed to her mom that she did get married in secret, before listing out why she decided to do that.

She thought her mom accepted her choice to get married without telling anyone, but after she hung up the phone, her dad texted her to say that her mom was beside herself.

“She then texted my sister and told her she felt that neither she nor my dad mattered at all to me anymore and that she felt she had failed as a mother,” she continued.

“My dad said I f**** up big time, what was the point of having a wedding now, and (unrelated) that there must be something wrong with me or my life that I’m still paying off credit card debt after having refinanced my home.”

Her sister is furious with her for making her mom so distressed, as her sister is seriously concerned that mom could end up in the hospital over this.

Her sister also thinks that she should have owned up to her secret ceremony and that there really wasn’t a valid excuse for why she hasn’t done that.

Do you think it was wrong of her to not tell her mom and dad that she secretly got married?
