She Came Home One Day To Find Her Engaged Sister-In-Law Trying On Her Handmade Wedding Dress And She Freaked Out
A 28-year-old woman has been married to her husband, who is 2 years older than her, for close to 6 years. Back when they first got engaged, they were quite tight on cash, and she could not afford to have the wedding dress of her dreams.
Well, her mom was a great sewer and agreed to help her create the wedding dress she dreamed of, so that’s exactly what she did.
“We spent over a year finding the pattern, picking the fabrics, and making my beautiful wedding dress completely from scratch,” she explained.
“It’s the first big project I’ve ever sewn, so I’m quite proud of it. Making it also brought me much closer to my mother, as the whole project was sort of a bonding experience.”
“It also holds a lot of additional sentimental value as my dad passed away while we were making it, so I sewed a heart-shaped cutout of one of his shirts into the lining of the dress in order to keep him with me on my big day.”
Her dress still means the world to her, as it made her feel more connected to her entire family, along with her husband as well.
Not that long ago, her 23-year-old sister-in-law became engaged, and her sister-in-law doesn’t have a lot of money to spend on a wedding.
Her sister-in-law recently graduated college after racking up a lot of loans, and she does not make that much at her current job.
Although her sister-in-law has already tried to shop for a wedding dress, it hasn’t been going that great, as her sister-in-law keeps picking wedding dresses that are much more expensive than what she can realistically afford.
Apparently, her sister-in-law reached out to her husband and requested her wedding dress to wear, but her husband maintained that he couldn’t just give the dress away without asking.
Her husband forgot to ask her about her sister-in-law wanting her dress, and after she came home one day this week she was shocked at what she found.
“…We came home to his little sister trying on my wedding dress and his mom clipping it in the back to fit her better,” she said.
“Seeing somebody else in my dress totally blindsided me. I was stunned and asked what they were doing, and my MIL said that they were planning alterations since SIL is significantly smaller than me.”
“I told them that there is no way I would be loaning my dress out to anyone. It not only represents my love to my husband but the bond with some of my family as well.”
Obviously, her sister-in-law and mother-in-law did not want to hear this, and they got into a blowout fight with her before accusing her of being “selfish” and storming out of her house.
“My husband thankfully grabbed the dress during the argument so they didn’t grab it when they left,” she continued.
She was basically beside herself when this happened, although now that she has had a few days to consider everything, she is much more collected.
She really is quite fond of her sister-in-law, and she knows she’s never going to use her wedding dress again, so she’s concerned that she did freak out too fast over all of this.
Do you think she overreacted?
