She Never Knew Her Husband Had A Son Until After They Got Married, And Now That Her Stepson Is Moving In With Them, She Wants Her Two Daughters To Share The Basement, But Her Stepson Wants The Space

After dating for three whole years and getting married to her fiancé, this woman still had no idea that her new husband actually had a son named Josh with his ex-girlfriend.
In fact, she only found out about her stepson after their daughter turned 2-years-old. Apparently, her husband never mentioned his son once during their three years of dating, and she still had no clue after she got pregnant.
“It was the ex-girlfriend who came over to our house with Josh– who was 5 back then,” she revealed.
After coming to that jarring realization, she was obviously livid at her husband. But, she claimed that after she asked every question under the sun– and went through a lot of counseling– she and her husband were able to figure the situation out.
At the same time, she was able to go from furious to just annoyed about her husband’s lies.
Then, once the truth was finally out, Josh started occasionally staying over at her house– and has done so for the past 11 years that she has known about his existence.
Whenever Josh slept over, he normally used a pullout couch– because she and her husband lived in a two-bedroom apartment and wound up having another daughter. So, her two daughters– Anna, who is 13, and Jane, who is 10-years-old– shared one bedroom.
“And I tried my best when it came to Josh, but he never saw me as his mom– which was fair to me,” she recalled.
Then, by the time Josh turned 16, a lot of drama started to unfold in court. She is not sure exactly what happened, but she does know that her stepson’s biological mother was ultimately deemed unfit.

So, since her husband claimed that Josh had nowhere to go, they needed to rethink their living arrangements. And even though they were not rich, they ended up moving into a two-bedroom home that came with a furnished basement.
Before they filled the kids in on bedroom assignments, though, she decided to voice her opinion about the furnished basement. More specifically, she believed that it was better suited for their two daughters since they would have a much bigger space to share.
After all, they would be hitting teenhood soon, and she did not want her daughters to feel cramped or as if they had no privacy when they needed it. So, she suggested that Josh just take the other bedroom upstairs. And thankfully, her husband agreed.
Once move-in day actually came, though, her entire plan got flipped upside down.
After they got there, her husband apparently told Josh that he would be getting the basement all to himself. Her husband also hyped up the space by telling Josh it would be like his own little living room.
And quite frankly, she was livid. She wound up pulling her husband aside and asking why the plan had been flipped. But her husband had a bunch of excuses.
“He told me Josh was planning to stay here while he goes to college in the future, and it should be fair for him to get a bigger space,” she explained.
While she claimed it would be fine if Josh wanted to stay at their home, though, she pointed out how it still wouldn’t be fair to stuff their daughters– who would soon be teens– into a cramped bedroom with no privacy from each other.
At that point, it appeared as though her husband saw her point but did not want to be the one to tell his son. So, her husband told her to talk to Josh herself, and she did.
She ultimately sat Josh down and explained how she and her husband’s initial agreement was that he would take the upstairs bedroom for as long as he needed.
She also pointed out how that bedroom had a walk-in closet and told Josh that he could get a TV installed in the room for his gaming setup.
Unfortunately, though, Josh did not take the change of plans well and actually blew up on her. He reportedly accused her of being a jerk and claimed that since he was not her biological son, she had no right to take the basement away.
Josh also said that he was “sick and tired” of her showing favoritism toward her daughters. But honestly, she really believed she had tried her best to show Josh she cared about him.
“I brought him with us on trips. The girls enjoy his company and look up to him. I paid for his school trips. I sat with him during a lot of parent-teacher conferences. I called out from work when he was sick to take care of him,” she vented.
“I tried my best.”
In spite of her efforts, though, Josh is still obviously really angry about not getting to live in the basement. So now, she has been left wondering whether making her stepson switch bedrooms with her daughters makes her a real jerk or not.
Can you believe her husband never told her about his son before they got married? If your partner did that, how would you react? As for the bedrooms– do you think it’s fair for her daughters to get the basement? If so, how would you handle this situation?
