This 32-year-old guy’s family is currently planning a vacation for the summer. And there will be a lot of people in attendance.

He will be going with his husband, his two children– who are 10 and 8-years-old– and his parents. His older brother, his sister-in-law, and his younger sister, Camila, will also be going on the trip.

Now, the vacation is supposed to be a 2-week long stay at a resort– which will obviously be pretty expensive. In fact, it will cost about $2,000 per person for the two weeks.

And for his 22-year-old sister Camila, that is a very steep price tag. Right now, she is completing her last semester of college and will not begin working a full-time job until August.

Camila currently is not working, either, and lives at their parent’s house.

“Not passing judgment on her for being unemployed because my brother and I went through the same at her age,” he noted.

But, just last week, Camila wound up calling him to ask if he and his husband could pay for her plane ticket and accommodations. His sister also revealed how their parents would then pay for her food and activities.

While he and his husband are able to comfortably afford their own family’s vacation expenses, though, also paying for Camila would add some financial strain.

So, he just told his sister that he would discuss it with his husband and give her a call back afterward.

During that discussion, the pair ultimately agreed to cover Camila’s vacation expenses if she agreed to babysit their kids on certain occasions.

Now, this obviously would not happen every day or without any notice in advance.

“But at least twice a week for two hours for two months. She would basically be the replacement for our current babysitter,” he said.

So, he wound up texting Camila back– explaining the arrangement he and his husband had come up with. But, to his surprise, his sister just replied, “Absolutely not.”

That pushed him to call Camila and ask why in the world she was so against the idea.

After all, he really thought it benefited both parties– his sister got to go away on the trip, while he and his husband got a babysitter they trusted without exceeding their monthly expense budget.

His sister just did not agree with his perspective, though. Instead, he and his husband actually got accused of trying to manipulate Camila into doing unpaid labor.

According to her, it was manipulative because she was forced to say yes if she wanted to go on the trip– since neither their brother nor parents would pay for her.

Camila also claimed that she was just way too busy with her last semester of college and final exams.

But, he pointed out how she could just complete any schoolwork at his house because his kids are extremely well-behaved and require little supervision.

In spite of that generous offer, though, Camila still refused. So, he ended up telling his sister that he was very sorry, but he and his husband just would not pay for her to go on the trip then.

So, ever since that discussion, Camila has been furious with him. And his mom is really angry with him, too, because she really wants to have a family vacation.

His mom is also well-aware that he and his husband have enough money to afford Camila’s expenses. And she believes that “family helps family.”

While he agrees with his mom’s sentiment, though, he still thinks that help needs to be reciprocated. And clearly, Camila is not open to helping him, too.

Still, while he feels like his arrangement was very reasonable, he is now unsure whether refusing to pay for his sister’s vacation unless she babysits his kids is the wrong thing to do.

Do you think his suggested arrangement was reasonable? Would his sister really be doing “unpaid labor,” or is the $2,000 vacation payment enough? If you were in his sister’s shoes, would you take the deal?
