She Used To Work In A Senior Living Facility, And One Night When She Was Alone, One Of The Creepy Residents Tried To Block Her In The Bathroom

Some jobs are best left in the past to just forget about, especially if working there made you feel unsafe and uncomfortable. This is why moving on to new opportunities is not only exciting but is also the best way to protect yourself from potentially harmful situations in a toxic work environment.

While this may sound like something that doesn’t happen that often, on the contrary, toxic and unsafe work environments are more common than not. They can be the most detrimental thing to a person’s career and one that makes them choose to leave it for good.

For some, toxicity may come in the form of an overbearing boss, unsupportive coworkers, or management.

However, a dangerous work environment can also be created by the problems that customers cause on a daily basis. This can be even worse when you work in healthcare or in a healthcare-adjacent industry like senior living.

TikToker Gee, @igeestatus, experienced a workplace environment like this when she worked for a senior living facility. Her experience shows just how disturbing people can be–though luckily, nothing bad happened to her in the end.

“A few years ago, I was working as a concierge at this senior living facility,” she began. “It was like a really, really fancy place. It cost $5-6,000 a month to stay there. It was more like nice little apartments but in a big facility.”

Since she was the one manning the front desk, similarly to every other concierge anywhere, there are overnight shifts that need coverage, even at a senior living facility. Unfortunately for her, that was the shift that she was booked to work for.

“I worked from 2 to 12 in the morning,” she said, meaning that she started in the afternoon at 2 pm and finished her shift at 12am.

Normally, working the late shift wasn’t a problem since she didn’t have much to do.

“I would just chill and watch Netflix the whole time,” she said.

However, she suddenly started to notice some weird behavior from one of the senior citizen residents towards her.

“There was this one resident, and his name was Ted,” she explained. “He was like 6′ 5″, and I swear he was like 400 or 500 pounds– like this dude was tall and huge.”

He was someone that, unfortunately, caused a lot of problems for the women working at this facility and for visitors. Everyone knew to steer clear of him for good reasons, as he was often very invasive towards females.

“The girls all there had told me to watch out for him because apparently he had been caught taking pictures of a waitress…during dinner service, and also he had been caught taking pictures of, like, a resident’s guest under her skirt one time.”

Needless to say, she learned very quickly that he was creepy and that someone she needed to keep an eye on.

She didn’t have to just believe what everyone else was saying about him because she had her own interactions with Ted that went too far.

“I also got to experience that because whenever I was working, and he was around…he would stop by, and then he would ask me, like, weird personal questions,” she explained. “Even after I had answered the questions or kind of, like, deflected, he would just stand there…watching me…for like a good five minutes. It was so uncomfortable.”

Her experience with Ted gets even worse from here. He wasn’t just acting inappropriately towards her during the day, but he also got too up close and personal with her when the facility closed for the night.

“He goes out one night, and he comes back…and at this point, I know he’s creepy, and he creeps me out, and he always tries to talk to me, and he’s already been caught taking pictures of girls…and stuff who work there,” she said. “So I’m just like, I don’t want to deal with him! I don’t want to deal with him tonight!”

She tries to strategize a plan that would allow her to ‘step away’ from her desk for long enough so that he’ll be gone when she returns.

“I leave my desk and go to the pool room,” she said. “I’m thinking, okay, I’m just going to wait him out. It should be about, like, 15 minutes– he’ll come in, he’ll sit down, take his little break that he needs to take, and then make his way upstairs to his room.”

If only it had been that easy for her. Things didn’t go according to her plan.

“I wait like ten, fifteen minutes, and then I’m like, okay, it should be good,” she said. I open the door…and he is literally standing right there outside the bathroom door. He doesn’t say a single word, and he’s just peering down at me.”

Not only was she terrified to have this creepy man standing outside the bathroom door, but he also wouldn’t allow her to move. It was like something straight out of a horror film– especially since she was alone because all the other staff had left for the day.

“He’s blocking the whole doorway,” she said. “Like I could not get by if I wanted to…I felt like he was thinking about doing something and trying to see if he could get away with it.”

She’s brave enough to push on ahead with getting back to work, so she tries to get around Ted in the doorway.

“I’m just like, ‘excuse me, Ted,’ and he inches slowly, like, away from the door, but, like, kind of sideways so that I could pass by–but only the tiniest bit so that my body would have to, like, press against his slowly to get through,” she said.

She was safe in the end and got back to her desk, as her yelling at him to move out of the doorway finally worked. Still, it’s a terrifying situation to be in, especially when you’re alone in a large facility like that.

So, just be sure to have a safety system in place in case you ever get stuck with a creep like Ted.
