Her Wedding Caterers Took Home Food And Drinks Behind Her Back

Allowing friends to play a part in your wedding day can make the event all the more special. But sometimes, it can cause tension and even damage friendships.

Unfortunately, that’s what happened to this woman who got married in Finland. She and her fiancé hired her best friends to cater their wedding.

Even though her friends aren’t professional caterers, she has hired them in the past for baptisms and birthday parties because they make fantastic food.

On Monday, the day after the wedding, she and her fiancé met up with her friends to make the cash payment for their catering services.

Her friends didn’t want to do a bank transfer because they didn’t want to pay taxes, so they met up in person while she and her fiancé were cleaning up their venue after the wedding reception and before her friends had other sets of orders to take care of that day.

Even though this should have been a straightforward situation, she ended up hearing some upsetting information.

“I mentioned that I was surprised that we did not have any leftovers from the main dish. All we had was the appetizers, salads, and fruits. Then my ‘friend’ mentioned that they had so much food that they had to give it away. She said that even their neighbors got the food from our wedding,” she explained.

Shockingly, when she rightfully asked why she and her fiancé hadn’t been able to take any of the leftover main dish home, her friend got frustrated and told her to ask her father-in-law.

So, once she got home after paying her friends for the catering, she talked to her father-in-law, who was at her and her fiancé’s house watching their daughter.

Apparently, her father-in-law had seen the caterers taking food away from the buffet table, but he thought they were just moving the food and didn’t know they were taking it home with them.

Realizing that people who she thought were her best friends did something like that was very upsetting.

“I felt devastated and betrayed. I felt like they took advantage of the situation by taking food home without my knowledge. I never expected anything like this to happen as they are very nice and generous with us whenever we hang out,” she said.

Then, she asked other friends who had attended the wedding if she was in the wrong for being upset that the caterers took leftovers home without her permission.

Her friends said that they’d even seen the caterers taking boxes of wine and beers to their van, and they asked her how many leftover drinks she had.

She and her fiancé hadn’t yet done an inventory of the drinks, but they’d spent over $2,000 on drinks for the wedding and barely had any during the reception.

Also, one of her friends added that at the wedding, he didn’t think to ask her about the caterers taking food and drinks home for themselves because he assumed she’d already given them permission to do so.

She was understandably upset that her friends catering her wedding didn’t ask before taking her leftover food and drinks home.

“I would have been okay if they had asked me, but they did this all behind my back,” she continued.

Sadly, she doesn’t have many friends, and she isn’t originally from Finland. Her caterer friends happened to be from the same Southeast Asian country, but despite having that in common, she’s unsure whether to continue the friendship.

While she isn’t a confrontational person, her now-husband has suggested that they both talk to her best friends to get more of their side of the story.

Should she ask her best friends, who were caterers for her wedding, why they took her leftover food and drinks without permission? What would you do if you were in her shoes?
