She Kicked Her Boyfriend’s Sister Out Of Their Apartment Because His Family Kept Showing Up Unannounced To Watch TV Or Make Food, Even When She And Her Boyfriend Weren’t Home

This 24-year-old woman recently moved in with her boyfriend, John, who is also 24. John is originally from India, but he moved to the United States to first attend college before starting to work.

So, she moved into his apartment in New York City, and everything was great at first. Well, except for one issue: she realized that, over the past few months, her boyfriend’s family members kept coming over to the apartment whenever they wanted.

Apparently, while most of John’s family is based in India, various family members have since moved to New York City over the past couple of years to attend school or work.

That’s why five of his family members now live in the city. And even though she is unsure of John’s exact relationship with each person, he apparently treats them all like siblings.

“Despite an age range of 18 to 32 years between the five of them, with none of them being his real sibling,” she added.

And over time, after the five family members moved to New York City, they just started showing up at the apartment whenever they pleased. John even gave them keys, so they literally went in and out of the apartment throughout the week.

She detailed how sometimes, her boyfriend’s family members just go over to watch TV or make food– even when she and John are not home! Other times, John’s family will sleep over in the guest room.

“This was incredibly jarring for me because it felt like there was no privacy left to be within the house when all these people could just come in, borrow things, use the apartment, and leave,” she explained.

“It’s not that they made a mess or broke things, but it was just them using our apartment as their own.”

Then, just yesterday, she went back home and found one of her boyfriend’s younger “sisters,” who is only about 19, cooking something in their kitchen.

But, she honestly had a really long and exhausting day, so she had been looking forward to relaxing in her empty, quiet apartment.

That’s why both the noise and smell of the cooking eventually started to get on her nerves. And she wound up confronting her boyfriend’s “sister” about being in the apartment.

“I asked her why she thought she just had the random right to come into our apartment whenever she felt like it and use whatever she wanted,” she recalled.

At that point, her boyfriend’s “sister” looked really offended– which only annoyed her more. So, she asked the teen to get out of the apartment, and the “sister” left while muttering things under her breath.

Anyway, John arrived home later that night. But he had clearly heard about what happened and asked why she was so rude to his sister.

She didn’t hold back, though, and admitted to being sick and tired of his family members constantly coming over.

Then, she claimed that they were no longer allowed inside the apartment unless she and John were notified beforehand.

However, John did not understand her frustration and instead accused her of being a major jerk.

“And disrespecting what they provide for us and his duty to provide for them,” she added.

Since then, she and her boyfriend have not spoken. John has also been sleeping on the couch and is still really upset.

So now, even though she doesn’t think she was in the wrong, she’s been left wondering whether not wanting her boyfriend’s family to constantly be in their apartment really made her a jerk or not.

Can you understand why she feels like her boundaries are being disrespected? At the same time, was it smart to yell at her boyfriend’s family member before addressing the issue with him first? How can they reconcile this situation?
