This 40-year-old man’s wife, 36, is pregnant and quite far along in her pregnancy.

His wife is the kindest soul he has ever met, and she isn’t even capable of being cruel or vindictive toward anyone.

“My mother and my aunt are second first-generation Americans as my grandmother and grandfather met in a concentration camp during WWII and were liberated and came to America. Because of this, they have developed a close bond,” he said.

Sadly, both of his grandparents on his mother’s side of the family passed away a long time ago.

As a bit of a side hustle, his wife enjoys baking, and his family always asks if she can bake for them, and they pay to receive their delicious baked goods.

A few times, his mother and aunt requested for his wife to bake a carrot cake according to his grandmother’s special recipe. His wife followed the recipe to a tee, and his mother and aunt loved her cake so much that they insisted it tasted even better than when his grandmother used to bake it.

Recently, there was a birthday party being hosted at his aunt’s job, and she requested his wife to bake two dozen cupcakes for the party using another one of his grandmother’s recipes. His wife has followed this particular recipe before.

Once the party was over, his aunt texted his wife to tell her that everyone loved the cupcakes and that she thought they were most likely the best cupcakes she’d ever made.

However, his aunt then questioned whether his wife had altered the recipe this time around. She claimed that the cupcakes were “lighter” and “even more moist” than when she’d previously baked them.

“My wife responded, ‘Nope. Followed the recipe on my fridge as I always do.’ Aunt: ‘No. I know my mom’s cupcakes, and you have made them perfectly before. This time, you had to have used a different recipe or ingredient. Did you use cake flour this time?’ Wife: ‘No. This is even the same bag of flour I used the last time.’ Aunt: ‘No. I know you did something this time. I know my mom’s recipe, and this is not her recipe,'” he explained.

At this point, he told his wife to stop arguing with his aunt because the conversation was going in circles. He could tell that his wife was annoyed.

Then, his mother texted them to ask how his wife changed the recipe, and she said that she and his aunt were curious so that they could try to replicate her recipe since the cupcakes tasted amazing.

Once again, his wife reiterated that she didn’t alter his grandmother’s recipe in any way. He jumped in to tell his mother to stop badgering his wife about the cupcake recipe, backing up his wife and telling her that she just followed the recipe exactly the same way she had before.

Several days after that, he noticed that his wife was studying the cupcake recipe they had on the fridge. She was reciting it out loud, wondering why the cupcakes turned out differently than when she’d made them before despite following the recipe precisely.

Since it was obvious that his wife was hurt and the situation was bothering her, he texted both his mother and his aunt, telling them they needed to say sorry to his wife for how they behaved.

“They ultimately were calling my wife a liar. My mom: ‘We didn’t say those words. It’s rude and upsetting that you would think we’re calling her a liar. Apologize to us,'” he shared.

While he was arguing with his mother, his wife told him that she wouldn’t mind if his mother and aunt were no longer allowed at the hospital during the delivery of their daughter.

The fighting through text messages continued, and in his view, his mother and aunt were gaslighting him because they continuously doubled down on the claim that they hadn’t insinuated that his wife wasn’t being honest.

Finally, he told them that if they didn’t tell his wife they were sorry, they couldn’t come to the hospital during the birth of their child. He also threatened not to tell them when they were headed to the hospital for the delivery if they refused to say sorry.

Once he said this, the floodgates opened. While his sisters took his side in the situation, his mother, aunt, and some of their friends contacted him to say that they believed he was too harsh. Plus, his wife thinks he went too far. However, after they discussed everything that happened, she understood and accepted his point of view. She’s now on board with not allowing his mother and aunt at the hospital until she receives an apology from them.

Now, he doesn’t know if he was blowing things out of proportion. Quite a few people he knows personally feel like he blew things way out of proportion due to a fight about a cupcake recipe.

His wife has assured him that she’s not deeply hurt about how his mother and aunt treated her, but he believed that since she was studying the recipe over and over and fretting about it, the situation probably bothered her more than she wanted to admit. In his view, his mother and aunt were being incredibly rude, and he wanted to make it explicitly clear that they could not treat her that way.

Also, he doesn’t want his mother and aunt to believe that they can act this way toward their daughter, either. He wants to show them he won’t allow this behavior to continue because, unfortunately, they’ve acted this way for a long time, and he is sick of it.

Upon reflection, he decided that he would say sorry to his mother for what he said and how he lashed out. He will still let her know that she needs to treat his wife kindly from now on. He wants to point out to his mother that even though she doesn’t understand how she is being rude, her words hurt his wife’s feelings.

In the end, his wife told him that she’d truly never felt comfortable with his mother and aunt being at the hospital for the birth of their daughter in the first place. So, even though this situation wasn’t fun for them to go through, it turned out that she was feeling better knowing that it would be just the two of them soaking in the unforgettable memories of the day their daughter was born.

Do you think he was right to tell his mother and aunt that he no longer wanted them at the hospital when his daughter was born?
