Here’s How To Create A Perfect Ombré Lip, Using Just Two Tones To Pull Your Whole Look Together

I don’t know about you, but I always feel like I have my act together and am super confident when my lips look great.
Some people cannot finish their makeup looks or leave the house without some lip liner, lip gloss, or lipstick, while others feel fine leaving their lips bare or just throwing on a quick bit of chapstick before starting the day.
I can understand wanting to wear more lipstick for your everyday makeup looks but getting overwhelmed, as so many lip trends come and go. However, I think this latest trend will stick around and will always be sure to take your look to the next level.
‘Tis the season of ombré lips!
More and more beauty influencers have been experimenting with two-toned lip looks for a long time and have figured out the perfect formula for creating a gradient ombré lip look that’s great for those who like adding a little flare to a neutral lip.
I know you may read the word ombré and think back to the ombré trends of the 2010s, which might make you cringe a little bit, but trust me, this is an ombré that you’ll want to keep around.
To create an ombré lip look, you’ll need two shades of lipstick. They should be within the same shade family, meaning they shouldn’t be too drastically different from one another. This trend is most popular with neutral colors, so you could start with two neutral pink or brown hues about two shades away from each other.
You’ll also need a lip liner that’s a shade darker than the lipsticks you selected, as well as your go-to lip gloss. Optionally, you should also have a lip primer or chapstick to use as a base for this look.
To create ombré lips, start by applying a lip primer or coat of chapstick to create a nice, smooth foundation for this look. Doing this will keep your lips primed and hydrated so your ombré look lasts longer and doesn’t crack.

Next, apply the lighter lipstick shade to the middle of your lips, meaning the top half of your bottom lip and the bottom edge of your top lip. This way, your lip color will become darker as it gets closer to the edges of your lip. Consider using a delicate lipstick brush to make this application a little easier.
Then, apply your darker shade of lipstick on the bottom half of your bottom and top lip. You don’t need to take the lipstick to the outline of your lips, as you will blend everything out and apply lip liner.
To remove any stark lines and let your ombré flow flawlessly, gently blend the two lipstick shades with a brush or your finger. Avoid smudging the colors together and focus on blending away any defining lines so that the lighter lipstick smoothly fades into the darker one.
Once you’re happy with how the lipstick shades look, take your lip liner and delicately line your lips. You don’t want to make your lip liner too thick or overline your lips; you just want to create a nice fine outline to make your look stand out.
Just like the lipstick shades, you also need to blend your lip liner so that everything flows together. Use a brush or your finger to blend the liner down towards your lipstick delicately.
Because you just applied a lot of product to your lips, you’ll need to blot them! This helps your lip look last longer by removing excess lipstick that could smudge your look over time. Put a tissue between your lips and press them down on either side of it once or twice to blot.
Hang on, we’re not done yet! To round out your look and finish it off, you’ll want to apply a nice coat of gloss. This will make your lips pop and emphasize all the hard work you just did!
And voilà! Following these simple steps will help you achieve beautiful ombré lips, a fun look that will set you apart from the rest. Try it out and see what you think!
