His Girlfriend Kept Making Rude Remarks About His Weight, So He Compared Her To Taylor Swift To Give Her A Taste Of Her Own Medicine

This 26-year-old man was born in the United Kingdom, and his mother was American, while his father was French. When he was 13-years-old, his father tragically died. After his father’s passing, he and his mother moved to the United States because that’s where his mother’s side of the family lived.
He’s been dating Rachel, 28, for four years. Up until last year, their relationship was wonderful. They met at a gym and have a passion for working out.
The two of them had a lot of chemistry, and after less than a year into the relationship, they started living together. He’s deeply in love with Rachel, and before last year, he felt certain that they would be together forever. Last year, they began having discussions about having children someday.
“Sadly, in April last year, my mom passed away unexpectedly. Since I did not have any siblings, my mom and I became really close, and losing her felt like my whole world came crashing down,” he said.
After his mother died, he was understandably overwhelmed with grief. He had hobbies and friends to comfort him, but he didn’t find the same joy in them that he did before this terrible loss.
Unfortunately, he developed some disordered eating habits as a way of dealing with his grief, and he began binge eating and gaining weight. Before his mother’s death, at 5’10”, he weighed 150 pounds. Now, he weighs around 180 pounds.
“I’m not obese, but I do look a lot rounder around the middle. I know I’m not living healthy, and I’m trying to change so that I can get back to where I want to be. However, in the last three months or so, my girlfriend has been making a lot of snide comments about my weight. For example, if I eat a small chocolate after dinner, she’ll say, ‘Aren’t you trying to lose weight?'” he explained.
When he watches soccer games, and one of the players on the field takes off his shirt in celebration, Rachel asks why he isn’t able to look as fit as the soccer player on TV. Plus, she remarks about his weight when they’re hanging out with his friends.
He’s repeatedly asked Rachel to stop commenting on his weight, but she defends herself, claiming that she’s trying to motivate him to lose weight. Rachel has so far refused to stop making these rude comments.

Rachel is a massive fan of Taylor Swift, and she’s been keeping up with the Kansas City Chiefs ever since Taylor Swift started dating tight end Travis Kelce. Last week, he and Rachel watched the conference championship game, when the Chiefs won against the Baltimore Ravens.
“The cameras were following the two of them for a bit. I decided my girlfriend needed a taste of her own medicine. I said, ‘It must be nice to date someone like Taylor Swift.’ My girlfriend looked at me weirdly and asked me what I meant,” he shared.
In response, he told Rachel that Taylor Swift was intelligent, gorgeous, and supportive of the man she was dating. He continued, expressing that the two women he’s dated (Rachel included) have been cruel and patronizing and had a bad habit of picking on him for the things he’s most self-conscious about.
Then, he pointed out that Taylor Swift doesn’t display any of the negative qualities he’s seen in the women he’s dated.
After that, he explained to Rachel that for several months, she’d disrespected him and made him feel terrible about himself. She called him a jerk and burst into tears.
Later, Rachel’s sister and her best friend both reached out to him and said that he was superficial and crossed the line with what he said to Rachel about Taylor Swift. In their view, it was unfair of him to compare Rachel to another woman.
However, he clarified that all he’d meant to do was give her a dose of the same treatment because no matter how many times he asked Rachel to stop making mean comments about his weight, she didn’t listen. This seemed like the best way for her to understand how awful she’d been making him feel.
What advice would you give him?
