Within the first two weeks of working her first-ever job at Dollar Tree, TikToker Emily (@croupmushroom) became the only employee in the store.
The store manager quit on the spot, leaving her alone with the assistant manager, who had been working there for even less time than her.
The assistant manager had been at the store for about a week. She started crying and freaking out because she didn’t know what to do.
A substitute manager ended up having to come in from a different store. The manager told Emily that she needed to stay for the rest of the day because she couldn’t get into the system to call another employee in.
About half an hour before the store closed, the substitute manager went to her car to take her last break. Emily was left to take care of a huge line of angrily screaming customers by herself.
Someone gave her a hundred-dollar bill, but it had to be signed off by a manager before it could be accepted.
The manager did not come back. The whole situation was super stressful. Once Emily got everyone out of the store, she locked the doors and tried to figure out what to do next.
She called a different store and told them what had happened. They had to call the district manager. It took him 30 to 45 minutes to get there.
When he arrived, he begged Emily not to tell anyone about the situation because a bunch of laws had been broken, and they could get into a lot of trouble.

Then, he gave her a ride home. After that, Emily ended up working there for five more years. Several people in the comments section shared similar experiences about working at the discount store.
“My first job was also Dollar Tree, and I convinced my store manager to quit with me after she worked for the company,” commented one person.
“When I worked at Dollar Tree, my manager would change the schedule daily and not tell anyone, and I had an assistant manager who spent every day crying over her boyfriend, so I would have to do all my stuff and her stuff. Actual nightmare,” shared another.
“Yeah, I worked at Dollar Tree for a week as a cashier. Being a cashier was fine, easy enough, but the store was so disorganized, and the back was walls of boxes. It was so stressful, and my manager gave vibes she was going to lose her mind soon,” added a third.
