The most frustrating thing has to be when no one believes that you're seeing ghosts. It can really mess with your mind, as TikToker Courtney (@courtneylomb) knows all too well.
"I lived with ghosts for most of my childhood, and everyone thought I was crazy, even to the point of my getting put on medication, until other people started to see and experience things for themselves," said Courtney.
It started when she was seven years old, and her family moved into a new house. She would hear creaky floorboards and subtle laughter and voices, which were easily explained away as the sounds of the house settling and background noises from people outside or on the television.
However, she always had this uneasy feeling of being watched, and she slept with the lights on for a long time. Her parents knew about her fear, but they used logic to justify everything she experienced.
Over the years, the paranormal activity slowly escalated. What used to be creaky floorboards and subtle background noises of laughter and voices became solid footsteps and conversations that she could clearly hear from inside her room.
"Walking around, I would notice that things were not where I would originally place them," Courtney said. "My closet doors would open ever so slightly, and there would be times when my TV would just completely change the channel or shut off. I was scared all the time."
She often expressed her concerns to her parents, but they always pointed to other causes. They did not fully believe what was happening to her.
Soon, she not only heard things, but she also saw things and strange people. She constantly saw the same three people—a young boy, a young girl, and an older man.
"It was really the older man's presence who I was truly terrified of, and he was also the person I saw the most," Courtney explained.

"And the vibe that he kind of gave off was that he was protecting those two children from me, even though I wasn't doing anything. It was just a very weird, uneasy dynamic."
Courtney was the only one in the household who was having these experiences. She felt like her only option was to live with it since it was too difficult to convince the others of what she was seeing.
She slept with the lights on, blasted the TV, and ignored the existence of the ghosts as much as possible.
One night, she had the most terrifying encounter of her life. She had been trying to fall asleep when she sensed someone come up behind her.
Then, she felt a small being climbing into the bed with her. There was a slight movement on the bed, which was immediately followed by the sound of singing directly in her ear. The voice belonged to that of a little girl.
Courtney ripped the covers off, screamed her head off, and sprinted down the stairs. When her parents saw the sheer terror on her face, they knew they had to do something to help her.
The incident prompted her parents to take her to a psychiatrist. She was put on medications for hallucinations at 12 or 13 years old.
They even had a priest come to bless the house.
Eventually, her parents took her off the medications because they did not like how she was behaving. The medications turned her into a shell of herself.
Finally, one night, her cousin saw the ghosts for herself. She often slept over at Courtney's, and apparently, the ghosts grew used to her being there, so they got comfortable enough to make an appearance.
Her cousin woke up at around 3 a.m., surrounded by a bit of fog, and when she opened her eyes, she saw an old man standing over the bed. At some point, Courtney and her cousin tried to connect with the ghosts using a Ouija board.
"Looking back now as an adult, I don't believe that these ghosts ever had any negative or ill intent," Courtney concluded.
"I think I would have been scared of Casper the Friendly Ghost, just like having a ghost in your presence. But I don't think they were intending to be scary or creepy."
@courtneylomb never thought I’d share on the internet bc I know there’s a lot of skeptics who will not believe me 🫣 #ghost #ghoststory
