Some kids grow up hearing bedtime stories, but TikToker Victoria (@victoriamadilyn8) grew up hearing spooky coroner stories. Her dad worked for the LA County Coroner’s Office.

He started picking up dead bodies in the coroner’s van sometime around 2001 and did that until 2013.

One spring day, he was responding to a call about a death that occurred at a beautiful mid-century home containing an elevator. When he walked into the house, something felt off. It seemed especially cold, eerie, and heavy.

The man who lived in the house had installed a one-person elevator. He was in a wheelchair and had somehow fallen backward. The elevator doors had closed on him and started ascending from the bottom floor to the top.

His head got caught between the floors, and it was dangling. The rest of his body was inside the elevator. A lot of blood was dripping down.

“My thing was, how did he fall backward if it’s just a single-person elevator?” said Victoria’s dad.

“As I’m working on this call, we’re trying to figure out what happened. We had to call the fire department because they had to help us open the elevator and bring him back down to the bottom level so we could pull him out.”

He distinctly remembers seeing a shadow out of the corner of his eye, and the air got really cold. When the fire department arrived, they brought the elevator back down and opened it.

Victoria’s dad was focused on doing his job. He finished up the investigation and put the body in the van. He started to feel unsettled again.

He jumped in the driver’s seat and sped off, eager to get out of there. However, that feeling did not leave him once he left the house.

A cold sense of dread washed over him that night in bed. It was one of the most chilling scenes he had encountered on the job.

In the comments section, several TikTok users shared their own experiences involving dead bodies and possibly evil entities.

“I took a field trip to the LA County coroner’s office this past year. It’s an eerie place. The people there are very professional and caring for the deceased. It’s an amazing place, but definitely not for the weak. I ran out of the crypt so fast. You’ll never forget the smell of a dead body,” commented one user.

“I got the chills!! I work for the general hospital, and I’ve seen a black figure!!” exclaimed another.

“My cousin back in the ’90s worked for coroners, and he said he picked up a body that mysteriously caught on fire in solitary in men’s central jail. He said he couldn’t sleep. How did he catch himself on fire!!” added a third.
