Do you think it's fair for your spouse to change their mind and demand that you stay home once you secure a job that you adore?
This woman has been married for close to nine years now, and she and her husband tied the knot when they were pretty young (she was 21 and he was 22).
Her husband's in the military, which requires them to pick up and move their family every three years. So, she has to drop her entire life, get new friends, and find a different job with every single relocation.
Two years ago, she got a job working for a tech startup, and she's advanced quickly there. She's in leadership and has to travel a lot for collaborative work.
She recently had to leave for the third trip in the last three months, and her husband got upset and tried to tell her she couldn't go on the work trip.
"No real reason other than because he said so and because it is not okay for me to be leaving. Keep in mind, because of the military, he leaves months at a time, and [I] have supported [him] every single time," she explained.
"I tried reasoning with him that I am living my dream job and I need to be supported as well, and his comments get worse: 'What career you don’t have a career, I told you to get a remote job, I need a wife that will be home with the kids.' After the last comment, I shut down and cried. I felt unheard, unsupported, and misunderstood."
"I have always worked and will continue to do so; it’s a non-negotiable for me. I am a first-generation Mexican American, and I [was] brought up [with] the sacrifices that grandparents and parents had to go through for me to have these kinds of opportunities. I owe it to them and myself!"
She went on the work trip anyway, despite her husband demanding that it's time for her to be his stay-at-home wife, and she had to literally beg him to drive her to the airport.

He did drive her there, but he made her get out of the car when he got to the first curb, which wasn't the correct airline, so she had to walk the rest of the way.
She boarded her plane, and when she got to her destination, she attempted to call her husband five times, but he didn't pick up the phone and sent her to voicemail.
She's left wondering what to do because she's professionally doing what she loves, and she doesn't want to quit because her husband expects her to.
I'm sorry to point this out, but she and her husband no longer sound compatible, and that means a divorce is probably in her best interest.
He wants a subordinate, not a partner. He has spent years being the main character of the family because of his military service, and now that she has her own platform, he wants to take that away from her.
Her husband should be applauding her success, not trying to stunt her growth, especially since she's had to give up so much for him.
What do you think she should do? How do you bounce back from your husband devaluing your career?
