When TikToker Laura (@lalaura_stone) first moved into her house, she and her neighbors didn’t really like each other too much. Her neighbors were a man and his wife. According to Laura, the man looked like a thumb that had been cursed by a witch to be a man.

Every now and then, she would hear inappropriate noises in the pool next door while she was out in her backyard. She suspected that the couple was involved in relationships with many different people.

After about a year of living there, Laura heard a loud noise one early Saturday morning. When she looked outside, she saw a moving van in her neighbor’s driveway.

They had quickly packed up their house and left. Then, a car peeled away, knocking over their mailbox in the process.

For two months, the mailbox sat untouched on the lawn. No signs indicating that the house was for sale ever showed up. It had simply been abandoned.

Six months into the abandonment, the house got a fresh coat of paint. Packages were arriving, but no one was picking them up.

Laura actually called the police to do a wellness check because of how strange it all felt, but the couple had just decided to leave. Nothing was wrong.

Finally, the house was sold to a new family with kids. They were very nice and kept to themselves. Laura gave them her phone number and told them they could come over during any bad storms because she had backup power and extra firewood.

One day, the wife sent Laura a text message, asking if she had received a visit from the Department of Health and Human Services. Laura ran to her front door to see if she had some kind of warning letter or notification stuck to the door, but nothing was there.

She wondered if there had been a measles outbreak at their kids’ school or something of that nature.

Apparently, someone had come up to the neighbor’s Ring camera, flashed their badge, and introduced themselves as a representative from the Department of Health and Human Services. The visit turned out to be related to the previous homeowner.

Laura found it strange that the government official had shown up a year late. Government processes are traditionally slow, but this felt baffling.

In the comments section, some TikTok users shared their thoughts on what the situation could be about.

“I’ve heard stories from other medical providers about STI/STD outbreaks being tracked by counties/cities, and maybe it was that sort,” commented one user.

“The only legitimate thing they would contact someone for would be for a communicable disease. They probably couldn’t reach them by phone or mail. And if it’s been that long, it definitely wasn’t measles,” added another.
