Six years after her mother’s death, TikToker Jordyn Downs (@mommajordyn) is finally ready to share about everything her mom put her through. Her mom’s name was Machelle Hobson, and she ruined Jordyn’s adulthood.

When Jordyn was 17 years old, she got into a huge fight with her mom. She decided to leave home for good. She had already gotten her GED and completed some college, so she left, thinking she would never return. When she turned 18, her mom messaged her, trying to convince her to come back home.

“She was probably struggling taking care of all the kids, and just as narcissists do, they convince you of things, and I was easily manipulated by her,” said Jordyn.

“At the time, she had convinced me to get my respite license and become a respite provider and do all the stuff, including respite for special needs kids. And somehow, in that mix, I agreed.”

Shortly after she earned her respite license, she and her mom got into another big fight. This time, Jordyn left permanently. She moved on with her life and got a job and an apartment.

She decided to apply for a credit card, but she kept getting denied each time. The reason for the denials was that she had too many delinquent accounts, which made no sense.

She looked into her credit and discovered that she had seven open credit cards in her name. She owed about $10,000. Some of the accounts had been closed already.

Jordyn tried to report the accounts as fraud, but they told her that it was all her. Next, she went to the police and almost got in trouble for making a false claim.

“I didn’t understand; I was 19 and just wanted nothing to do with my mom anymore,” said Jordyn. “And I was honestly too scared to actively try to press charges against her…I knew she could do stuff like this and ruin my life like that, with just a snap of her finger.”

Jordyn tried to fix her credit by taking out a high-interest loan, but she was unable to pay it back, which worsened her credit even further.

When she turned 21, she became pregnant with her first child. She had a job but didn’t have any health insurance. She went to a resources office to try to get access to health insurance, but when they asked about her income, they discovered that something was off. The records showed that she was making $68,000 a year, even though she was only making $38,000 at the time.

The lady turned the computer screen around to show her that she was making $68,000 a year doing respite for Machelle Hobson.

When Jordyn realized her mother was behind this, she started crying and tried to explain the situation. But in the end, she was unable to get health insurance.

Jordyn soon realized that the money must be going into a bank account with her name on it. She called all the local banks and found one account that still had $1,000 in it, so she cashed it out.

Two weeks later, she miscarried the baby without any health insurance, and the hospital bills ended up affecting her credit. So, not only did Jordyn’s mother make her childhood miserable, but she also made adulthood nearly impossible for her.
