TikToker Courtney’s (@courtort) marriage went south after only spending three months as a wife, because her husband kissed his ex-girlfriend while returning Christmas ornaments to her.
Courtney says the last three to four years of her life have been so chaotic, thanks to her husband, whom she is now divorced from, that she often forgets about this unexpected gem.
Just before Courtney met her husband, he had recently gotten out of a serious relationship. Courtney’s husband lived and worked with his ex-girlfriend, and he helped her raise her young daughter, too.
Courtney’s husband then converted to Mormonism due to his ex-girlfriend’s father’s involvement, but while that was happening, they split up.
Courtney’s husband was off and on with his ex following the breakup, but by the time Courtney came into his life, he shut his ex down for good (or so Courtney thought).
Throughout the time that Courtney spent dating her husband, his ex would frequently contact him with things Courtney didn’t find menacing.
Her husband’s ex would ask him for the recipe for a shake she enjoyed, or talk about old clients they had when they sold life insurance.
Courtney didn’t feel the need to make her husband block his ex, since this woman was not acting in a way that threatened their bond, and her husband was being transparent.
“But then he started telling me about some texts she was sending about her daughter, like, oh, she really misses you, she talks all the time about if you had been her dad, and all these things,” Courtney explained in her video.

“And that’s where I started being like…mmm..I’m getting really uncomfortable. I’m starting to feel like she’s being a little manipulative here, like tugging at your heartstrings.”
During Courtney’s engagement to her husband, his ex sent him an invitation to go to an event hosted by his favorite country singer. For Courtney, that crossed the line, so she asked her husband to cut contact with his ex for good.
Courtney’s husband was on board, so she stopped worrying. Their wedding happened in September, and when December rolled around, Courtney and her husband went through their Christmas decorations.
While digging through what they had, Courtney’s husband uncovered a box full of his ex’s Christmas ornaments, and he said he wanted to return them to her.
Courtney was on the fence about it, as she didn’t think the ornaments were sentimental, since his ex hadn’t asked for them back. Courtney’s husband pointed out that one of the ornaments was a baby ornament for his ex’s daughter, and so Courtney gave him permission to return the box.
Courtney suggested mailing the box back or dropping it off on his ex’s porch, so her husband wouldn’t have an excuse to contact this girl.
Her husband agreed to do what Courtney said, so she figured he mailed it, as he didn’t give her the girl’s address or request that she do a drive-by with the box.
Three or four weeks passed after that, and suddenly, it was the week of Christmas. Courtney’s husband then informed Courtney that he had reached out to his ex to deliver the ornaments against Courtney’s wishes, and he apologized.
Courtney appreciated the honesty, though she wished her husband had brought her along. But then, Courtney’s husband revealed there was more to the story.
Either Courtney’s husband got into his ex’s car, or his ex climbed into his car during the ornament drop off. Apparently, Courtney’s husband’s ex then confessed that she still had feelings for him! And then they kissed!
Courtney’s husband maintained that he pushed his ex off of him and demanded to know what she was doing before flagging that he had a wife.
Next, Courtney’s husband said he got right out of there. He did insist it was only a kiss, which he did not initiate. Courtney was furious because that was why she didn’t want her husband interacting with his ex at all: she was worried something might happen between them.
It was Courtney’s first Christmas without her family, and she came close to buying a plane ticket and flying home to spend the holidays with her family rather than with her husband and his loved ones.
“This just should not be happening in the first three months of marriage. But then, I’m like…you love this person. You’re newlyweds,” Courtney said.
Courtney resolved to stay with her husband but got them into therapy in an effort to save their marriage. Her husband did admit in therapy that he was seeking validation from his ex and never should have met up with her alone.
Courtney and her husband worked through it and went on to have kids, only to divorce later on, but she wonders how her life would have turned out if she had walked away from him and bought that plane ticket.
“What would life have looked like?… You can’t go back anyway, and so, all we can do now is move forward with the choices we’ve made and the life we have, but yeah, I’ve always wondered what would have been different,” Courtney continued.
“What could have, should have been different there. So yeah, that’s how my ex-husband kissed an ex-girlfriend three months into our marriage, and then we stayed married for another seven years.”
