She Heard A Little Girl Asking If She Was Awake In The Middle Of The Night, Which Revealed A Hidden Family Tragedy

A TikTok account that goes by the handle @afterdarkhotline takes scary story submissions and tells them from her point of view, as they are often submitted anonymously.

One story starts out with a grave warning. Her parents warned her not to sleep in the guest room at her grandparents' house, and she thought they were just trying to spook her until she spent the night there. Her grandmother bought a two-story house about 40 years ago, and there was one bedroom upstairs that no one ever used.

Every time she visited, her grandmother would let her stay in her bedroom while she slept on the couch. If someone else was also visiting, the other guest would take the couch, and her grandma would sleep on the floor.

One time, out of curiosity, she asked her grandma why no one ever used the guest room. Her grandma told her that the guest room got really cold.

When she was about 19 years old, she spent the weekend at her grandma's house. At the time, her grandma had quite a few guests over, so there was nowhere else to sleep except for the guest room.

Her grandmother brought her clean sheets and an extra blanket. She warned her not to leave the room if she heard any footsteps outside the door during the night.

"Anyway, I wound up falling asleep around midnight, and then I woke up around 2:00 a.m., and I was absolutely freezing," narrated @afterdarkhotline.

"No matter how many blankets I had on me, the room was completely dark, and I started to hear footsteps outside of my bedroom."

"I was telling myself that it was just my grandmother, and I heard them go away, and they came back. And then, it sounded like they stopped right outside of the guest bedroom door. I waited for somebody to open the door, but nothing happened."

The footsteps went away, but a couple of seconds later, she heard a little girl's voice ask if she was awake. It asked her twice. All she could do was pull the blankets over her head and wait for whatever it was to go away.

Suddenly, she heard her grandmother's voice coming from the hallway. She told her not to talk to it. She did not move until morning.

The next morning, she went downstairs and asked her grandma if she had been upstairs during the night. Her grandma immediately stopped what she was doing and asked if she had heard the little girl.

Her grandma explained that her mom had a little sister who passed away in the house. She had been sick for several months and spent most of her time in the upstairs bedroom.

Ever since she passed away, family members would occasionally hear her at night, so that was why no one was allowed to sleep in the guest room.

Two years later, her grandmother passed away. When she was cleaning out the house, she found an old photograph in the guest bedroom.

It was tucked away in a drawer. The photo was of her mom and her little sister. On the back of the photo were the words, "She doesn't like being alone."
