It's never a good idea to hook up with someone at the office, because nine times out of ten, I feel like it only comes back to bite or haunt you.
This 26-year-old woman works at a mid-sized company, and a year ago, they hired a 21-year-old male intern to help her team out.
He was ridiculously friendly, just like a golden retriever, and she was having a hard time after splitting up with her boyfriend, so this was just a bad combination.
One evening, they both had to stay late at the office to work on a project that had to be in by a specific time. They ended up having a couple of drinks from the fridge in their office; one thing led to another, and she hooked up with him in the conference room.
But that was hardly the only time she slept with her intern.
"It happened two more times after that. I knew it was stupid. Power difference, age gap, completely against company policy. I ended it when his internship was about to finish and told him it was a one-time mistake," she explained.
Exactly one month after their latest fling in the conference room, he began sending her screenshots of their conversations and steamy photos she sent him.
He even had a video he took of one of their late-night office sessions. He demanded that she pay him and threatened to send all of the evidence to her manager and HR if she failed to cough up the cash. Scared, she did what he asked.
"I’ve paid him twice already. He keeps asking for more. I can’t sleep properly, I’m paranoid at work, and I don’t know whether to call his bluff or keep paying," she continued.

"I feel disgusting. I was the senior one. I should’ve known better. [Please] tell me what I can do now."
Yikes, this is a mess! I do think the best thing is to get ahead of him and go to HR herself. Even if she loses her job over this, it's important that she takes back the narrative.
Her next stop should be the police department, because it's illegal to blackmail someone, and this guy has to be stopped. I would be worried about him releasing compromising photos or videos of her on the internet anyway.
What advice do you have for her?
