This American man has a girlfriend who is from Malaysia. And together, they have been living in Malaysia for the past few years.

So, they have also spent Christmas with his girlfriend’s family for the last three years in a row. This year, though, it was his turn to see his family for Christmas back in the United States.

Their plan was for him to stay in the states until mid-January because he had not seen his family since prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

His girlfriend, on the other hand, was going to travel back to Malaysia on December 29. That way, she did not have to take too much time off of work.

Anyway, he ended up paying for both of their flights using credit card points. But, due to that payment method, he was forced to book two one-way trips for each of them.

Regardless, he was still able to secure both of their seats in Business class on the way there, as well as the way back. And he was pretty happy about that.

“My girlfriend had never flown at all before and was excited for her first flights to be in Business class,” he recalled.

Unfortunately, though, the experience of flying to the U.S. with his girlfriend was practically unbearable.

Apparently, she complained about literally everything throughout the entire twenty-six-hour flight.

First, his girlfriend whined that the bed was uncomfortable and said that the food was terrible. She also complained about the lounge area being too busy and even claimed that the privacy partition and door to her seat were pointless– since, apparently, people could still see over the dividers.

“She also said the wine selection was not extensive enough,” he added.

He ended up getting pretty frustrated and trying to explain to his girlfriend how flying in Business was infinitely better than riding Economy. His girlfriend, though, had a pretty nasty attitude.

In fact, she claimed to “doubt that” and said that she actually would not mind flying back to Malaysia in Economy since “Business was so sh*t.”

Still, he did not think his girlfriend truly understood how different the Economy class was. So, he tried to show her the cramped seats and basically non-existent privacy. Even after that, though, his girlfriend refused to budge.

“Business didn’t have any privacy, either. Seriously, save your points and just get me an economy ticket back,” she actually said.

So, after hearing that, he honestly did. He went online, downgraded her flight back to Malaysia, and saved about eighty-five thousand credit card points. After all, his girlfriend claimed to hate Business class anyway, right?

Well, during his girlfriend’s flight home alone, she would not stop texting him about the downgrade. She claimed that she could not believe he would “let her fly all the way back to Malaysia like that” and called the Economy class “awful.”

He simply pointed out how his girlfriend had told him to do that, though. Nonetheless, she is still really pissed off at him and is convinced that he is a total jerk for actually downgrading her flight.

And now, he is feeling pretty confused and, honestly, pretty upset himself.

He believes it is unfair that he tried to show his girlfriend the true differences between the flight classes, and she ignored him. Then, even after he did what his girlfriend explicitly told him to do, she became angry with him.

So, he has been left wondering if downgrading his girlfriend’s flight from Business to Economy was actually a jerky thing to do or not.

Do you think it was generous of him to book his girlfriend’s Business class tickets using all of his credit card points? Why do you think she acted so ungrateful and entitled? Is it his fault for downgrading his girlfriend’s plane ticket after she literally told him to? If you were in his shoes, how would you handle this situation?
