Her Husband Secretly Got Rid Of Their Son’s Favorite Christmas Gift Because He Claimed It Was A “Girl’s Toy,” So She Was Furious And Actually Told Her Son What Her Husband Did
During the summer, this thirty-nine-year-old woman and her husband, who is forty-two, decided to take their seven-year-old son on a trip to Myrtle Beach. And honestly, they had an amazing time lounging on the shores.
One day during their trip, though, she and her family stopped at a local gift shop to purchase some souvenirs.
Then, while inside the shop, her son spotted a cute toy ball with some strawberry-themed characters on it and absolutely fell in love with it.
In fact, her son ended up begging her to buy it for him. But, she just said that perhaps Santa Claus would bring it to their home on Christmas.
Then, she secretly bought it, tucked it away, and held onto it for the holidays.
Now, four months passed before Christmas finally came around. However, she claims that not one week went by without her son mentioning that little ball from Myrtle Beach.
“Quite frankly, I have never seen him so excited about something before. I was super excited for him to open it on Christmas morning,” she admitted.
Anyway, December 25 eventually rolled around, and she and her husband gave their son all of his gifts. But, once he finally opened up the special ball, he could not have been more excited.
To her surprise, though, her husband was actually “less than thrilled.” Apparently, he knew all about her plan to gift their son the ball. But, her husband claimed that he never got to take a “close look” at the toy.

Then, after seeing it on Christmas day, her husband actually revealed how he was concerned because their son “wanted what was clearly a toy for girls.”
Now, she was completely taken aback by her husband’s comment and attempted to explain that the toy was just a ball. Moreover, it should not matter who it was originally marketed toward.
So, her husband did not say much after that, and he actually just dropped the topic altogether. In turn, she figured that the issue was not that big of a deal.
Well, that was until about a week later, when her son’s brand-new ball went “missing” from her house out of nowhere.
And as you can imagine, her son was beyond distraught– and she could not even help because she genuinely had no clue where it had gone.
Then, her husband actually pulled her aside in private and revealed that he had given the ball away to her brother-in-law.
Apparently, the plan was to give the strawberry-themed ball to their niece. And in exchange, her husband purchased a Spiderman ball to give to their son.
Now, don’t get me wrong: her son does love Spiderman. But that was definitely not the point, and her husband knew how much their son loved that ball. Moreover, how it was literally the highlight of their son’s Christmas this year.
So, she was honestly livid and called her husband out for acting so insensitive and thoughtlessly. Shockingly, though, her husband just kept defending his actions.
“My husband is arguing that he did it for the ‘greater good’ and that he was ‘protecting our son from bullying,'” she recalled.
If you could not have guessed it, though, she thought that reasoning was just plain ridiculous– and she told her husband that. She also claimed that her son would never get bullied over the toy, particularly because the ball did not even look like a “girl’s” toy to begin with.
Then, since she was so outraged, she may have taken it one step too far. More specifically, she decided to spill the beans and tell her son what had actually happened to his new favorite toy.
“The reason why the ball is gone is that your dad gave it away to someone else without asking,” she actually told her son. Yikes!
Obviously, her husband was immediately furious and even accused her of trying to turn their son against him. Her husband also claimed that she should have just “left it alone,” and now, he firmly believes that she is in the wrong.
At the time, though, she just felt like she was being honest and believed that her son deserved to know the truth.
However, since reflecting on the situation, she has also started to feel a bit bad about how it all went down. After all, she never wanted to hurt her son or damage her son’s relationship with her husband.
“But, at the same time, I don’t think it is right for my husband to interfere with our son’s Christmas gifts without consulting either of us first,” she vented.
So now, she has been left wondering if telling her son that her husband actually took away the toy ball was justified or if she just made the situation worse.
Should it matter if kids play with toys that are “meant for” a specific gender? Why do you think her husband cared so much if their seven-year-old son liked a “girl’s” toy?
