Her Sister Expects Her To Make Her Lavish Wedding Less Extra So Her Wedding Won’t Look Bad In Comparison
This woman is getting married in July of this year, and her sister Ash is having her wedding just a month earlier than she is.
She and Ash never intended to be walking down the aisle so soon after one another; the dates just happened.
Although she was proposed to first, Ash’s husband-to-be is part of the military, so if they don’t get married within a certain amount of time, they’re going to have to wait quite a while.
Ash clearly preferred getting married sooner as opposed to later, so that explains the month difference in their wedding dates.
Now, she and Ash were on the lower end of the middle class growing up, and her mom and dad just gave Ash $1,000 to put towards her wedding.
She knows that a grand doesn’t do much by way of weddings, especially considering the fact that their guest lists are going to be quite long.
Their family is quite large, and they also have loads of friends that are coming to their weddings.
“Ash is doing everything she can to be thrifty and will end up having around 70 adult guests at her wedding,” she explained.
“She wishes it could be more and with kids, but due to budget cuts had to be made. My fiancée Julie is from a very well-off family, and with her being their only daughter, they are being extremely generous with the wedding budget.”

“I don’t want to say how much they’ve given us, but it’s more than most households make in a year. It still feels a little surreal marrying into a family like this, but I will say they’ve been nothing but kind to me, and I’ve never felt judged by them.”
The guest list for her wedding includes approximately 250 people, and she suspects no more than 200 will actually be able to make it.
Ash was aware of the sheer number of guests on her invite list, but one thing Ash wasn’t really clued in about is how lavish her wedding is going to be.
Last weekend, she and Ash spent time together, and as they began discussing their weddings, Ash couldn’t help but notice how extravagant hers is.
“The food served will be over $150/plate, it’s one of the most expensive venues in the area, and the musical performer is relatively well known (family friend of Julie’s),” she said.
“Ash asked me if I could “tone it down” so it’s not so much bigger and better than hers and so people don’t compare or skip hers for mine. I told her that her wedding will be amazing and not to compare, but I won’t be telling Julie not to have her wedding how she wants it. Personally, I’d elope or have a giant wedding, it makes no difference to me, but Julie wants an extravagant affair, and if her parents don’t mind paying, I’m fine with it too.”
Ash thinks she’s being a complete jerk for not wanting to elope, and Ash feels like she’s going to outshine her. Honestly, her mom is on Ash’s side, so she’s wondering if they’re right. What do you think?
