Seven years ago, this 28-year-old woman met her 27-year-old fiancé, and two years ago, he proposed to her.

She says they’re like every normal couple in that they have benefits and burdens to being together, but she can’t pinpoint any enormous issues with their relationship.

One day, her fiancé came home from work, and his sadness was overpowering. Out of nowhere, he burst into tears, and he admitted he’s been lying to her about being happy and having a desire to walk down the aisle.

Their wedding is supposed to be happening in three months, by the way.

“Over the last few days, he has said that he loves me more than anything but that he wants to start fresh with no responsibilities (we have pets but no children and no desire for any) and that he thinks he will be happier without me,” she explained.

“I am completely blindsided by this and totally beside myself. He left Tuesday night with the dog and some things and has been slowly taking more things.”

“He came over last night and this afternoon, and I poured my heart out to him, and he was saying that he is scared that if he stays with me, he will continue to be unhappy like he has been the last few days, but then is also telling me that this is so hard for him and that he has missed me and not been coping well.”

He came across as dejected, and it broke her heart as she begged him to give their relationship one more shot.

While he appeared to want to give in and say yes, he verbally told her no, over and over again. Finally, he said yes would be easy to say, but he knows the hard decision is what’s best for him.

She’s bewildered. He truly acted like he was thrilled for their wedding and honeymoon. He even purchased a suit for their wedding, and she already got her dress.

While she knows planning a wedding is stressful for everyone involved, he never let on that he was anything but excited to move forward with her towards a forever.

Currently, he’s living with his mom along with their dog, as she can’t care for their pup all on her own. But his family barely has room for him, so she thinks this will be a temporary living arrangement.

Tomorrow, he’s coming by to gather up the remainder of his belongings, meaning he’s about to be completely moved out of their place.

She saw him today. He picked up some of his things but had a hard time leaving, as he was too busy talking about how hard it was to walk away, yet he felt the urge to be free.

She insisted he was saying one thing and doing another, but he denied it and maintained he doesn’t want to continue in a relationship with her.

“I’ve given him the space he asked for, but it seems like everything is getting worse!” she exclaimed.

“I am so confused and heartbroken. No one saw this coming, not even his friends. I said to him you do realize your responsibilities won’t just stop because you’re single? This is life. What will you do if you do leave me and get your own place and you aren’t happy after a while? And all he could say [is] that he will know he [messed] up at that point.”

“…Is this a major episode of cold feet that may turn back around? Do you think something more is going on? Please note: this is his first-ever relationship, but he did say to me he had no desire for another relationship or partner, sleeping with anyone else, etc., so I don’t think it’s a lack of experience for him. This seems related to going out and doing what he wants when he wants but he has always been able to do this anyway?”
