Harper (@justanotherharper on TikTok) had her dad totally wreck her engagement, and then he made things even uglier by refusing to walk her down the aisle at her wedding.
Harper’s engagement was meant to be a surprise, and the week it happened, her dad called her on Thursday (her proposal was that Saturday).
“Keep in mind, your parents have been divorced since kindergarten, you’re not that close to your dad, he’s a good guy, funny guy, have a good relationship, but you’re not that close,” Harper explained in her video.
Her dad didn’t know the guy she was dating at all, and he didn’t have any information about her relationship, since Harper only saw him a handful of times a year.
Basically, her dad didn’t know a single thing about her life. So when he randomly called her up, she figured someone in their family had to have passed away.
“I don’t know if it’s fully happening, I have my suspicions, because I got my nails done, things like that, but I wasn’t sure when it was happening, who knew it was happening, where it was happening, I was just thinking it was going to be this weekend,” Harper added.
So when she picked up her dad’s call, he instantly told her that she was going to get proposed to that weekend. Harper is difficult to surprise, and she felt awful for her boyfriend since he tried his hardest to craft a surprise engagement for her.
From there, her dad told her that she could say no and decline the proposal, which left her speechless. Harper’s mom basically raised her, and her dad stayed out of big things in her life, so it was really strange to her that her dad was giving her advice at all.
“He says, ‘I know how special of a person you are, but I don’t know how special of a person he is.’ Girl, I’m sorry your marriage didn’t work out, but let’s not…drop a bomb on me literally right before I’m literally going to get engaged,” Harper said.

“And I love this man, literally just bought a house with this man, like, my parents have been divorced multiple times, I’m trying to figure out how to break that curse, and he does so many things that my father never did for my mother, so I’m like, what are you even talking about, and what the heck?”
Her dad went on to say that marriage is tough. After the phone call ended, Harper continued on with the rest of her week. She did end up getting engaged that Saturday.
She said yes, and now her dad is refusing to walk her down the aisle.
“I’m not even letting my dad walk me down the aisle because, like you, my dad wasn’t there to raise me. My mom did, so the person giving me off should be the person [who] actually raised me,” one person commented on Harper’s video.
“Girl, this is insane. I am so sorry. But congratulations. The only opinion that matters is YOUR opinion,” someone else said.
“Men seem to have this innate idea that their opinion should always matter to women, and especially if they’re your father. From what it sounds [like], he has no right to try and tell you who to marry,” a third person added.
