Do you think it's acceptable to go digging through a date's phone when they get up to use the bathroom, or is that just one major invasion of privacy?
This 28-year-old woman has been on exactly four dates with a 31-year-old man, and their latest one happened on Friday. They went out to a bar after having dinner together, and at one point, she got up to use the bathroom.
She left her purse and her phone sitting right there on the bar and didn't give it a second thought. After returning and having a couple more drinks, she and her date called it a night and went back to his apartment to hook up for the first time.
"A few moments into kissing, he paused and asked something very personal that he only would have known about me if he had looked at my phone because of a very specific app I have notifications from," she explained.
"The app is for something very specific that he definitely would NOT know or even guess about me without seeing it on my phone."
"We went right back to it, but I was bamboozled trying to figure out how he would’ve known that about me, and it wasn’t until the next morning, lying in his bed while he was still asleep, that I put 2:2 together that he had gone through my notifications."
She is not interested in disclosing what the particular notification was about, because it's exceedingly private information about her.
But the notification was one that she received on the morning of her date, so this man had to have gone through all of her notifications in order to find it.
She's feeling worried that her date took it upon himself to go looking through her phone, and she's left wondering if anyone has ever had this happen to them on a date.

"The phone was locked, so he could only see apps/contact names in my notifications, not the details of what the actual notification was," she continued.
"He probably wouldn’t have made the comment if we weren’t so tipsy. I’d love any opinions on this situation."
I would be upset if this happened to me, because it's not only invasive, it's disrespectful, especially after only having gone out on a handful of dates.
He should be asking before touching her things. This would be enough for me to walk away from this guy.
What advice do you have for her?
