Imagine standing in an ICU while your tiny baby struggles through his very first weeks, only to have your own partner dismiss him as a total waste of money and effort.
This woman gave birth to her son prematurely at seven months, and he was then placed in the ICU for his survival. In the first year of his life, he struggled to crawl, hold up his head, and reach other age-appropriate milestones.
After taking him to the pediatrician several times, her son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and doctors have said he will never be able to walk, as it's that severe.
Her husband became enraged over the disability and outcome, and directed his anger at her. Her husband said raising a disabled child is a waste of money and time.
He pushed her to give her son up for adoption and wanted to then have a second child as a replacement. He threatened to find another woman who could give him a healthy baby.
He ultimately asked for a divorce before leaving her, and he called her a failure for having a disabled kid in the first place. 10 months ago, their divorce was made final, and it was all because her husband did not want to take care of her son.
"...He said our son is a 'waste of human' and even insulted me for giving premature birth to our child. Now I have been taking care of my son all alone with the little money I make from my job," she explained.
"I have had to make calculated plans with the expenses for rent, food, medical check-ups for my son, and the medicines my son needs because the insurance doesn't cover everything."
"I also have to purchase a wheelchair for my son since he's going to start needing one when he goes to school. For now, I only move him in the stroller. My ex-husband started dating someone else and moved to another state, and I haven't seen him in months."

He blocked her on social media after he informed her that he would not give her a dime. She hired a lawyer and sued him two months ago, and that's still an ongoing process.
She's not convinced she will ever get any money from him, and she feels extremely stressed about it. She's doing her best to find a job that pays better, and she has asked her parents to loan her cash.
It makes me so sad that her ex-husband said those awful things to her, but it's a gift not having him anywhere near her or her son if that's how he feels.
I think she should research Early Intervention Services, which is a government-funded program that provides free or low-cost support for children who have disabilities or developmental delays.
There could be other state-specific programs or respite care available to her depending on where she lives, and all of those things could give her much-needed assistance while she waits to see if the court will hold her ex accountable for child support.
She's really a wonderful mom, and her son is lucky to have her.
What advice do you have for her?
