She Kicked Her Phone Off A Cliff On A First Date And The Story Of How She Got It Back Is Pretty Funny
Nobody wants that awkward first-date moment when you have nothing to say. That’s why outdoor activities are a good choice for a first date–there’s always something to talk about.
Most would consider hiking a fun first date. But not TikTok creator @ri.conrad, whose first hiking date was a disaster.
In a story-time style video, Riley Conrad explains how her first date in high school–not to mention her first date ever–was a hiking trip with a boy that she was really longing for.
“I was super excited,” she said. “Older boy goes to my high school, super cute, I was like over the moon excited for this date.”
The date was a normal one at first. It started out well for them and seemed to have some potential for more.
“We hike all the way up, and it’s all going great so far,” she said. “We’re having great conversation, it’s a good time.”
But it all quickly came to an abrupt halt when she accidentally kicked her phone off of the cliff.
“I was like, I’m going to crawl out to the edge and swing my legs over, and I’m just going to sit there,” she said. “So my phone was in my hand as I’m swinging my feet over, and what do I do? I kicked my phone out of my hand off the cliff.”
While Riley said that she has “always been a klutz,” this incident reached a whole new level of clumsiness and terror.
“I was speechless,” she said. “Even worse, he was speechless.”
Her phone ended up very far down the mountain on a ledge that’s impossible to get to, she explains. Though she and her date try to reach her phone, it is to no avail. Only when an experienced climber stepped in was she able to breathe a sigh of relief.
“He sees we’re failing, and he goes, ‘do you want me to come try?'” Riley said.
Shockingly, her phone was not lost that day thanks to the pro-climber who took used a risky climbing technique.
“He hikes down, and he starts free-climbing up,” she said. “When I tell you this man actually was able to free-climb all the way up to it and got it for me–he got it.”
After the fear of kicking her phone off of the ledge, mostly because of what her strict parents would have done, it is a miracle that her phone was not damaged at all.
“My phone was fully intact and still worked,” Riley said.
It was also a miracle that her date wasn’t deterred by the situation and continued to go out with her–something that her followers were not surprised by. Many supported her and claimed that she didn’t do anything to destroy their date.
“Not ruined, just made it more memorable,” one user wrote.
“U didn’t ruin it; you put spice to it,” another said.
Even OtterBox, the company whose case was on her phone at the time, reached out and commented, “what an adventure.”
An adventure it was, but there’s one thing to remember: don’t go hiking for a first date, and definitely don’t sit on the edge of a cliff, or you might kick your phone off too.
@ri.conrad For sure the most embarrassing story that I have #embarrassingstorytime #firstdatefail #iruinedeverything
