This young woman sadly lost her paternal grandmother. But, before the tragic loss, her grandmother made her a sweater that she absolutely loved.

But her mom, on the other hand, absolutely hated the garment– so much so that she was actually forbidden from wearing the sweater outside of the house.

Apparently, the sweater had a unique design and featured the colors white, blue, and brown. So, she realizes that it does not match everybody’s taste.

“But every time I wear the sweater, I can almost feel the warmth of my grandma, and it also slightly smells like her,” she said.

That’s why after she returned home from a friend’s house recently and realized her sweater was missing, she was devastated.

She immediately asked her mom what happened to it, and her mom claimed that she must have just misplaced it. However, about a week later, she found out her mom had been lying.

For context, her mom is an active member of their church. And the church they attend just so happens to have an outreach program where members can donate food, lightly used clothing, and other necessities to people in need.

And about a week after she lost her sweater, she showed up at school and realized that a girl– who was known to be quieter– was sitting in the cafeteria and wearing it.

That’s why she decided to approach the girl, even though she now realizes the confrontation was probably intimidating.

“I’ll be honest, I am quite popular at my school, and I confronted her with two of my friends, who are also pretty well-liked at our school,” she explained.

“So, I likely came off as intimidating, especially to someone who usually is very quiet and keeps to themselves.”

Regardless, she first went up to the girl and claimed to like the sweater. Then, she wound up asking the girl where they had gotten the sweater– to which the girl just mumbled something under her breath.

So, she asked again where the sweater was from. And at that point, the girl revealed the garment had been donated. That pushed her to ask where the donation was from, and the girl reluctantly revealed it was from the church.

“And I instantly knew then what my mother had done,” she revealed.

That’s why she ended up revealing that the sweater had been stolen and was actually hers. Then, she claimed that the “right thing to do” would be for the girl to return the garment to her.

Now, at first, the girl didn’t want to give it back because it was pretty cold outside. So, she offered to get the girl a new sweater by the end of the day in exchange for her grandma’s sweater, and the girl agreed.

Anyway, by the end of the day, she returned home in the sweater from her grandma– which made her mom pretty unhappy. But her mom was more so confused and asked how she managed to get the garment back.

At that point, she detailed how she had seen another student wearing the sweater at school and had asked them to return it. And this immediately made her mom both shocked and furious.

Apparently, her mom could not believe that she was “so obsessed” with the sweater that she would take it back from someone in need. But she clapped back at her mom.

“And I told my mom that I can’t believe she would give away something that she sees as pure trash to somebody in need and still call it charity,” she recalled.

By that point, her mom just called her ungrateful and told her to shut her mouth. So, she told her mom that stealing her personal belongings and donating them was way out of line.

Regardless, her mom claimed that since she lived under her parent’s roof, her mom was entitled to do whatever she wanted. Plus, her mom said that until she decided to part ways with the sweater, her allowance would be reduced.

So now, in the wake of her punishment, she’s been left wondering whether asking for her sweater back from the classmate it was donated to was a really jerky thing to do.

Was it right that her mom donated the sweater from her grandmother without asking? Even so, was it appropriate to approach a student in need and ask for the sweater back? Can you imagine how the girl must have felt being confronted like that? How could she reconcile this situation?
