We’ve all had those dates that stick out in our minds and are hard to forget. Maybe something went horribly wrong, or someone’s behavior was so incredibly bizarre that you were done with the date before it even began.

The difficulty with dating nowadays is that most people meet online through dating apps, which means that it can be difficult to really get to know someone before you go out with them.

But what happens when you don’t meet someone on the apps, and instead, they stop you on the street to ask you out? This happened to TikToker Crystal, @crystaluncut, who met a guy on the streets of SoHo in New York. The date turned out to be worse than she expected.

“I just had an experience that left me so aghast that I just need to talk about it,” she said.

Right off the bat, it probably wasn’t a good sign that their first encounter started off with him asking her an odd question as he passed her on the street.

He asked her if she happened to be Ethipoian, which really caught her off guard.

When she says that she’s not Ethiopian but rather American, he doesn’t give much of a reaction except for saying, “Oh, I think you’re really cute…do you think we could get a drink?”

She is immediately put off by this and tells him that she won’t grab a drink with him. Instead of accepting her answer and walking away, he delves in further in a more personal way.

“He’s like, ‘Well, do you think I could get your number? I would love to get to know you more,'” she explained. “I’m like, hmmm…I don’t really know you, like maybe you can get my Instagram, and we could talk a bit, but like, I don’t really meet people off the street.”

That wasn’t enough for him, and he insisted that she give him her number after promising that he wouldn’t text her again if she turned out to hate him.

“I kind of respected that, and I was like, you know, okay, fine, whatever,” Crystal said.

She decided to give him her number and text him when she was free later on that day. Since it was an easy date choice, she told him that she’d be in the nearby ice cream parlor.

“If you want to meet me here, that’s where I’ll be,” she texted him. “So we get to the ice cream spot, and we start talking. He’s a journalist who does tourism journalism, and we’re talking about like places we’ve traveled, what we do for work…conversation’s getting kind of interesting.”

Shockingly, it seemed to be going well for her, despite her prior doubts. However, things took a turn for the worse pretty quickly into the date. He pays for her ice cream as they leave the store.

“He, like, barely holds the door open for me, and it almost slams on me,” she said. “At that point, I’m like–I’m good.

The red flags just keep popping up the further that she gets into this date.

“He keeps asking if I want to walk and eat this ice cream,” she said. “I’m like, no, my feet really hurt, I don’t want to walk.”

Instead of being understanding, he seemed to have an issue with her answer and keeps pestering her about why she doesn’t want to walk around.

“He’s acting like he’s really inconvenienced by the idea of, like, sitting down,” she said. “After that, I’m like, yeah, there’s nothing else for us to talk about. I kind of, like, shut down…because I’ve told you I’m in pain, and you’ve told me you don’t care.”

Though she gave up on having any more interesting conversations with him, he intrigued her when he asked if she liked documentaries–to which she responded that she did.

“He’s like, ‘I directed one.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s really cool! What’s it called?'” she explained. “He’s like, ‘Well, you’d have to watch it to get it.'”

Overlooking the bizarre response that she got, she agreed that she’d watch it if he would just tell her what the name of the movie was. Instead, he says something even weirder.

“He’s like, ‘Do you wanna watch it together?’ and I’m like, ‘Now?'” she said.

He wanted her to watch his documentary with him immediately. When she declined, he got annoyed and got up to leave as she was doing the same.

“Do you know what this dude says?” Crystal said. “‘Can I have my money back for the ice cream?’ I took a deep breath, got a 20 out of my wallet, threw it in his face, and walked away.”

Needless to say, saying yes to random men on the street isn’t a good idea.

“Never again,” she said.
