This man and his ex-girlfriend dated for five years before they broke up. They moved in together and shared so many of the same interests and personality traits that their friends often joked they were the same person.

From his perspective, everything always felt perfect. Over the years, they hardly ever even argued. They seemed to be on the same wavelength and incredibly attracted to each other. His ex always seemed just as happy in the relationship as he was.

Unfortunately, while looking at footage from security cameras in his home a week ago, he discovered that his ex had been having an affair. He was so stunned that he almost passed out. He’d seen no warning signs or red flags at all.

Their relationship had been going smoothly for so long. They both were in good shape and enjoyed hooking up, and it always felt like there was an obvious mutual physical attraction. He and his ex-girlfriend enjoyed romantic nights out, exchanged presents, and often made kind gestures for each other. It felt like the affair came out of nowhere.

The following day, he planned to talk to his ex after work. However, when he arrived at their place, he realized she’d taken all her clothing and other belongings and left. He was baffled that she abandoned him like this, and later, she sent him a text message in an attempt to explain herself.

“She was in an affair since we started dating because she couldn’t choose between me and her ex, so she ‘took both’ until she realized that her ex was ‘more in love than you,’ and she went to stay with him. She said that the five years of our relationship were a good ‘experiment,'” he said.

After that, his ex-girlfriend blocked him. Her text messages were so cruel, heartless, and insulting, and they caused him to feel furious and bitter toward her. He didn’t try to find another way to get in touch with her, but he informed his family and friends about what happened.

Two days after the breakup, his ex-girlfriend and the man she’d been having an affair with were both intoxicated and involved in a car accident. Neither of them survived the accident. His ex’s family members hadn’t known that their relationship had ended only days before her death, so they contacted him to let him know about her passing.

“I told them I don’t care because we are exes, and she betrayed me, so I was feeling nothing for her,” he explained.

His ex-girlfriend’s family were shocked by his response because they’d had no idea they’d broken up, so he sent them a screenshot of the text from his ex when she explained that she’d been cheating on him for the entire time they were together.

They were empathetic and could see why he had complicated and difficult emotions for his ex and the news of her death.

Later, his friends and family members got word of the car accident and began texting him with their condolences, but he reiterated the same words he’d told his ex’s family.

He told them he didn’t care, adding that he hoped she and the man she cheated with were suffering in the afterlife.

“They called me a cold and emotionless jerk, but sincerely, I don’t care,” he shared.

In his view, his friends and family members are free to have their opinions on his reaction to his ex’s death.

He then pointed out that nothing could take away his ex’s betrayal, and he can’t help but feel like the last five years were a waste of time because he was devoted to a woman who deceived him and had an affair for the entirety of their relationship.

What advice would you give him?
