When she was 26 years old, TikToker @unhingedmonologues went on a date that ended with her sitting alone at a bar with two expensive drinks that she had gotten for free.
So, she met this very attractive guy who suggested they go out for cocktails. He was very excited about going to this particular bar and kept texting her about it before the date.
When they arrived, the bar was packed. Suddenly, his personality seemed to grow more intense. He was talking more loudly, dropping a bunch of names, and telling the bartender that he came there all the time. The bartender clearly did not recognize this man.
He then ordered the most complicated drink on the menu. However, his credit card declined, and it turned into a whole dramatic situation.
After the bartender ran the card twice, he loudly announced that the card had been declined. So, her date pulled out another card. At that point, everyone in the bar was watching.
The second card also declined. All the man’s energy seemed to evaporate right then. He kept talking about how he needed to call his bank because something was wrong.
TikToker @unhingedmonologues felt bad and offered to pay. She handed her card to the bartender and told him to keep the tab open.
Her date said he had to use the bathroom. She watched him walk away from the bar, pass the bathrooms, and head straight out the front door. He didn’t even pretend to go to the bathroom.
“Nothing, just out into the night, gone, like he was never even there to begin with,” she said. “Honestly, though, relief is the only word I have for what I felt in that moment.”

“Just pure, clean relief because I did not want to have to try to make conversation with that guy over drinks. I just knew it was going to be a painful experience.”
Once she finished her drink, she asked the bartender for the check. He had been a witness to the entire date, so he told her not to worry about paying. She tipped him well and went home.

“Mine was a Tinder date. We get to Applebee’s, order, his phone goes off, eat a little, his phone goes off, have a drink. Finally, he was like, ‘My mom keeps calling; I’ll be right back!’ Never came back. I had to pay for my drink and food. Also, I had to sit there for a while because I don’t drink a lot, so I couldn’t drive for a while. Embarrassing,” commented one user.
“I went on a first date (drinks) with a guy who strongly implied he wanted me to have his babies multiple times. I faked a phone call and dipped,” added another.
