College Girl Has Acid Thrown On Her Right In Front Of Her Own Home In Horrific Attack

21-year-old Nafiah Fatima lives with her family in Elmont, New York, and she currently attends Hofstra University.

On March 17th at around 8:15 p.m., Nafiah and her mom arrived at their house located on Arlington Avenue and parked their car alongside the curb.

Everything started out as a normal, quiet evening in their neighborhood, but then things took a strange turn.

As Nafiah’s mom goes inside the house, Nafiah made one last trip out to the car to get something. A neighbor’s security camera captures the next chilling moments on tape.

Nafiah begins walking to the front door when a man comes sprinting up behind her from out of nowhere.

The man who came running up behind her then threw acid on Nafiah’s face before racing away across her lawn and into the street, disappearing into the dark.

“The unknown attacker knew how dangerous the acid was as they were seen on camera wearing gloves,” Shazia Anjum explained on a GoFundMe page created to help cover Nafiah’s medical expenses.

“The attacker used a dark brown acid known to cause blindness and severe burning. Had the acid gotten into Nafiah’s lungs she would have died.”

“When Nafiah screamed it caused the acid to go into her mouth, burning her tongue and throat, which prevented her from breathing.”

“When Nafiah ran into her house and her parents saw her, they immediately tried to help her, but in the process, the acid burned their hands and forearms as well. If her parents were not home to help her and call 911 right away she would not have made it.”

Shazia went on to say that Nafiah suffered severe burns on her arms, chest, face, and eyes due to the acid attack.

Nafiah’s contact lenses even melted to her eyes, and it is not certain at this time if she will be able to get her vision back.

Shazia stated that Nafiah has remained so strong despite having something so terrible happen to her and that her “only wish is that the attacker is caught so that she can feel safe in her own home.”

Nassau County Police Department; pictured above is the statement regarding Nafiah

The Nassau County Police Department released a statement on Nafiah’s attack, though they did not mention her by name in it.

“According to Detectives, the female victim, 21, while walking on the driveway of her Arlington Avenue residence was approached from behind by an unknown male,” the Nassau County Police Department said.

“The male suspect was carrying a white-colored cup containing a dark-colored substance which he then threw at the victim’s face.”

“The suspect fled eastbound on Arlington Avenue. The victim did sustain serious physical injuries and was transported by Police Ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment.”

“The male suspect is described as approximately 6’2” tall, skinny build, wearing a black-colored sweatshirt with a hood and wearing gloves.”
