Her Brother Has Always Acted As Though She Literally Does Not Exist, So After She Got Asked To Be A Bridesmaid In His Wedding, She Declined And Actually Said She Would Not Be Attending At All
This young nineteen-year-old woman has a brother who is thirteen years older than her. Throughout her entire life, though, she claims that her brother has made it clear he would have much rathered been an only child.
First of all, they have never had a close sibling relationship. On the contrary, her brother actually has never made any time for her.
She believes that he truly never wanted to let her into his life and was not interested in having a place in hers.
Then, even after her brother moved out of their childhood home, everything stayed pretty much the same. Her brother remained distant– only speaking to her parents. And even when he would visit home, he would apparently act like she was not even there.
So, over the years, she was kind of forced to just get used to it. Even though it really hurts sometimes.
For instance, back when she was just twelve, her parents decided to ask if she could stay at her brother’s place for one weekend since they had to attend an adult-only wedding.
“He said no, but he didn’t just say ‘no.’ He was clear that he would never want that kind of contact with me,” she revealed.
This ultimately caused her parents to get into a back-and-forth argument with her brother. And even though she is not sure how bad their fight actually got, all she knows is that her parents never asked her brother to look after her again.
So, ever since then, she has felt pretty confused by how her brother has treated her. It always stood out how he appeared almost disgusted by the idea of spending any time around her.

In fact, he would never show up to any of her birthday parties. And not once did her brother ever purchase her a birthday present or gift for Christmas.
Now, her parents were also always bothered by that. But, they always told her that once both she and her brother grew up, their relationship would “be more equal,” and they could get closer.
“But I think they wanted to believe that more than they actually did,” she admitted.
Anyway, over the last eight years, her brother has actually been in a stable relationship with his girlfriend. Despite the couple going steady for so long, though, she has actually only met her brother’s girlfriend a grand total of two times.
Plus, as of this year, the couple has even gotten engaged. So now, her entire family is all excited, and she does not know how to feel.
Things became even more complicated for her after her brother’s fiancée joined her family at Christmas. And during the celebration, she was actually asked to be a bridesmaid at the wedding.
Apparently, her future sister-in-law claimed that she needed to be included– since the rest of the groomsmen and bridesmaids were also siblings of the couple. Still, though, she was not sold on the idea.
So, she ended up asking her brother’s fiancée if that was the only reason she was being asked to join the wedding party. And apparently, her brother’s fiancée went totally silent.
“I mean, she was asking a stranger for the sake of appearances,” she noted.
Anyway, after her brother and his fiancée’s intentions became clear, she opted to tell his fiancée that it was a nice gesture. However, she revealed that she could not accept the offer to be a bridesmaid; moreover, she actually would not be attending the wedding at all.
Shockingly, though, her brother’s fiancée did not take that news lightly. Instead, his fiancée actually completely freaked out.
According to her, her brother’s fiancée “went crazy” about how her lack of attendance would overshadow the entire day. She also got told that sometimes you just show up for family, even if you are not close to the family member, simply because “family is important.”
Then, her parents ended up hearing about what happened between her and her brother’s fiancée– and if you could not have guessed, they were not happy, either.
In turn, she actually ended up needing to leave her parent’s house altogether and has not stopped getting backlash from them.
“They told me he is my brother, and I should be at his wedding even if I’m not a bridesmaid,” she vented.
So now, with the holidays over and her brother’s wedding coming up, she has been left wondering if declining to be a bridesmaid and attend her brother’s wedding was the right thing to do or if it actually just makes her a jerk.
