Her Husband Read Her Diary Behind Her Back And Became Furious About What Was Written Inside, But She Insists She Has Nothing To Apologize For Because He Violated Her Trust
Ever since this woman was ten years old, she has kept a diary. She feels that journaling is a form of therapy for her, and she has always written down exactly what she is feeling with no filter.
And, of course, she never let anyone read her diaries. After all, they house some of her most vulnerable and intimate thoughts.
Well, that was until over a decade ago when she first began dating her husband. After they had been going out for a few months, her then-boyfriend went over to her apartment while she hopped into the shower.
And while he was supposedly looking for matches, her then-boyfriend actually stumbled upon her diary.
When she came out of the shower, she found him sitting on her bed with a completely shell-shocked look on his face.
Apparently, her journal held the details of her life as a newly single woman at the time, and her then-boyfriend was not thrilled about what was written down.
Still, he initially apologized for reading her thought journal, and she ultimately forgave him. But then, he started to harp on what she had written down again.
“Things got messy. He started getting either very sad or very angry while referring to things he read,” she recalled.
“And his feelings were so intense that I started apologizing for my thoughts!”
This was something she never wanted to do since her diary was supposed to be a safe place for her unfiltered mind. Still, she apologized, and they eventually moved on. In fact, she even got married to him.
A decade later, though, the same invasion of privacy popped up again. But that time, she had been in the midst of considering a divorce and wrote a lot about that sensitive topic.
So, once her husband “stumbled” upon the diary again, you can imagine how he felt the second time.
She was also understandably pretty pissed off that her husband had defied her trust and invaded her personal diary again. But, for a second time, they both agreed to get over their upset and let it go. Or so she thought.
“I let it go, but he started getting sad or angry again, thinking about what he had read. And once more, the intensity of his feelings led me to apologize for my thoughts,” she said.
Still, she figured that her husband would eventually move on and learn his lesson about reading other people’s intimate journals. Unfortunately, though, she may have overestimated her husband in that realm.
Apparently, while she was setting up Scrabble with her husband and their kids this past Friday night, her husband left to go find a piece of paper to keep score. Then, when he returned, she noticed he was very quiet and distracted.
So obviously, she asked what had happened, and her husband revealed that, for a third time that he had read her journal.
She was immediately nervous, given that her most recent diary entries discussed pretty sensitive topic matters.
“I recently tackled some tough feelings related to our different ethnic and religious backgrounds. I wrote things that would have been hurtful to read, and I was mortified knowing that he did read them,” she revealed.
At the same time, though, she was also just beyond pissed off at her husband for betraying her trust yet again.
Shockingly, though, her husband actually blamed her for leaving the diary out. Then, he accused her of being a terrible person because of what she wrote inside the notebook.
But, to be honest, she did not even care to listen to her husband’s feelings anymore. Instead, she just wanted to know why he would go behind her back again.
And even though her feelings on the matter were valid, her husband did not really have any remorse. In fact, he just accused her of overreacting; meanwhile, he reportedly tried to deflect and minimize his own faults in reading the diary.
“He also called me ‘overly emotional’ when I cried over how violated I felt. This feels so wrong,” she vented.
So now, she and her husband have basically been stuck in a stalemate over her diary. And she has been left wondering if insisting that her husband was totally in the wrong for reading her private journal entries in the first place was fair or not.
Do you believe her husband has read her diary just these three times or more? If you read someone’s diary behind their back, are you allowed to be upset about what you find inside or not? Should she have to apologize to her husband for what was written inside her journal? Would you apologize if you were in her shoes?
