A night out at a nice restaurant is supposed to end with full stomachs, not a true-crime twist. When TikToker @thehodgepodgeplace went to an expensive restaurant with her friends and her kids, they got robbed by their server, and then their server ended up passing away.
The bill added up to a total of $550 for everyone. She gave her friend some cash to cover her portion. Her friend used her credit card to pay for her and her husband, and used the cash to pay the rest, along with the tip. It was pretty standard procedure when it came to splitting the bill.
A couple of days later, her friend checked her bank account and saw that it was overdrawn, even though she had specifically moved money around to pay for this dinner.
The charge was over $500, meaning that the cash they handed over hadn’t been applied. The only logical conclusion was that the server must have pocketed the cash.
She immediately called the restaurant, but the restaurant didn’t answer. Then, she called her bank and told them to put a hold on her card. The bank gave her money back in the meantime.
A couple of weeks later, the bank deemed the charge to be valid and withdrew the money, leaving her friend back at square one. Her friend went down to the restaurant to dispute the charge.
She talked to the manager and told them everything that had happened. The manager thought that something seemed fishy because the server had only had two cash tables that day, yet he ended up with $500 tips.
Even more alarming, it was the second or third time he had done something like that in the short month he had worked there. However, he could not face repercussions because he was no longer alive.
A news article revealed that he had gotten into a domestic dispute with his boyfriend and was stabbed to death.

It just goes to show how unpredictable life can be. One minute you’re splitting a $550 dinner bill. The next, you find out that your server died a tragic death.
“So, the whole thing played out fine,” said @thehodgepodgeplace. “She got her money back. They admitted he had done that. He had done it multiple times, apparently, and there was no recourse for him because he was dead.”
In the end, the restaurant acknowledged the wrongdoing, and her friend was reimbursed. Still, the bizarre chain of events left everyone reeling.
TikToker @thehodgepodgeplace doesn’t usually believe in karma, but this incident was so eerily coincidental that she is now questioning everything she knows.
Recently, she and her friend went back to dine at the same restaurant the other day, and they still talk about how much of a rollercoaster that incident was.
