She Hosted A Family Dinner For Her In-Laws But Ended Up Kicking Everyone Out After They Made Her Feel Totally Uncomfortable In Her Own Home
This forty-year-old woman and her husband, Daniel, are originally from Brazil. But, just last year, they decided to move to Portugal, and she was super excited about the relocation.
This was primarily because Daniel’s family lived in Portugal, so she had never really gotten to meet them before properly. And after everyone was introduced, she thought that things were going great.
Daniel’s sister even began hosting dinner parties, so the entire family consistently had opportunities to get together. The parties were nothing extravagant or over the top, but her sister-in-law apparently always makes delicious homemade meals for them.
After repeatedly attending her sister-in-law’s home, though, she eventually wanted to give back.
“I had an idea to host a dinner for all of Daniel’s family as a thank-you for all the dinners his sister made for us. Daniel loved it and suggested we do a Brazilian barbecue,” she recalled.
So, she invited Daniel’s family and set a date– which happened to be a few nights ago. And on the day of the dinner, she spent the entire morning and afternoon cooking and preparing.
She whipped up as many Brazilian dishes and desserts as time would allow. She also paid close attention to the table settings and was confident that everything looked beautiful.
Her husband was at work the entire time she was preparing the dinner, though, and did not get to see any of the arrangements. Instead, her husband picked up his family on his way home from work, and everyone arrived together.
Unfortunately, though, she could instantly sense that the dinner was going to go downhill immediately after seeing the look on her sister-in-law’s face. Her sister-in-law apparently had this expression on as if something was wrong.

Still, her husband was very happy with all of the preparations– so she just tried to ignore her sister-in-law’s disgusted face.
Well, that was until her sister-in-law started vocalizing her feelings and making some really rude comments– including “Why did you do all of this?” and “That’s not how we throw dinners here.”
Her sister-in-law also said that “Brazilians are so much” and claimed that the Brazilian barbecue was going to give her a stomachache in the morning.
“My sister-in-law even went through every pot, the stove, the fridge, kind of like inspecting all of it,” she said.
And after her sister-in-law started being so loud about her opinions, Daniel’s other family members began taking back their initial compliments and replaced them with even more disapproving looks.
It’s as if they were trying to act just like her sister-in-law and as if she had somehow insulted them by cooking them a nice dinner– which is just bizarre.
“Things were very tense. I just felt so uncomfortable and out of place in my own home,” she vented.
But, the real kicker did not come until midway through the dinner. While she was enjoying the food she had worked hard on all day, her sister-in-law decided to make one last jab.
“From now on, all dinners will happen in my house because we like things simple here,” her sister-in-law actually said.
And at that point, she was done taking the heat for no reason and decided to stand up for herself. So, she got up from the dinner table, began removing all of the food, and told everyone off. Then, she kicked Daniel’s family out.
“Thank you for coming. But, as I noticed, none of you appreciate my efforts to make a nice gesture. I don’t appreciate being belittled in my own house, so please see your way out,” she told Daniel’s family.
Her husband was totally stunned by her decision to do that and immediately began apologizing to his family for her. He even tried to claim that she was just having “one of those days,”– which understandably made her furious.
So, she ended up getting into an argument with Daniel, too. He believes that she could have handled the situation better and that if she was feeling offended, she should have told him before making a scene.
And honestly, ever since talking to Daniel about the dinner, she has been left feeling pretty anxious. Daniel’s family has not spoken to them since, and now she is wondering if kicking everyone out really was an overreaction.
