This ER Doctor Is Sharing The Story That Gives Him Goosebumps To This Day, And It Involves A Little Girl Who Nearly Died From Drowning

Emergency room doctors have seen so many things and have a ton of crazy medical stories to tell.

One TikTok user who is also an ER doctor made a video about an experience he had with a patient that still gives him “chills” to this day.

Years ago, while Dr. Joe (@drjoe_md) was working in the ER, he had to take care of an urgent patient. Tragically, she was a 5-year-old drowning victim. The little girl had fallen into her family swimming pool.

“When paramedics brought her in, they were doing CPR still,” says Joe in his TikTok video. “She had no pulse, no blood pressure, she wasn’t breathing, and no signs of life.”

Then, Dr. Joe and other ER staff brought the little girl into a room in an attempt to resuscitate her and save her life.

They put in a breathing tube and, amazingly, after 10 minutes or so, were able to get her pulse and blood pressure back.

When the girl’s parents arrived, they were quite distressed. Especially the girl’s father, who kept walking around and saying things like, “it’s all my fault” and “I should’ve known better.”

Dr. Joe tried to reassure this father that accidents happen and that it is not his fault. Then the dad said to him, “No, I don’t think you understand.”

The father then told Dr. Joe the story of a time when as a little boy staying with his grandparents, he went swimming in a river when he wasn’t supposed to.

He eventually started to drown. When his grandfather went in to save him, he died during the rescue.

“First, I killed my Grandpa, now I almost killed my daughter,” said the dad.

The little girl was eventually admitted into the pediatric ICU. A few days later, Dr. Joe received word that she had woken up, so he went to visit the family and see how they were doing.

The little girl’s parents were extremely thankful and relieved that she was going to survive this traumatic event.

Dr. Joe then turned to the girl and asked her if she remembered who he was. She couldn’t remember him or the rest of the ER staff.

But, out of the blue, she said, “I remember Sam.”

Unaware of who she’s talking about, Dr. Joe asked her what Sam was doing when she met him.

She said that Sam was holding her hand. When Dr. Joe asked what Sam looks like, she told him that he was wearing “a hat and a funny jacket.”

Dr. Joe had no clue who the girl was talking about. Then, the girl’s father started looking through pictures on his phone. He showed his daughter a picture and said, “Is that Sam?” She said yes.

The dad then turned to his wife and said, “Oh my god. That’s my Grandpa.”

“So his grandpa, who had died 25 years earlier saving him from downing, was there holding her hand as we were doing the resuscitation.”

How amazing is that?
