19 Minors Trespassed On His Rental Property And Threw A Pool Party, So He Held Them Until The Police Arrived, And Demanded They Pay Him For The Damages, But Now His Husband Is Claiming He Was Too Harsh
This man currently owns a nice house equipped with an outdoor kitchen and pool that he rents out for parties and weekenders. But this past weekend, he had to deal with trespassers and thieves on his property.
It all began on Friday when he went to the grocery store to pick up drinks, meats, and various other items to stock in the outdoor kitchen.
The house had been booked for a party on Sunday, so he made sure that the kitchen was packed and ready for hosting.
Then, on Saturday, he received a random call from his brother, who asked if he had rented out the house that day.
He was shocked and told his brother no. Then, he learned that his brother had passed by the house and heard very loud music coming from the backyard, in addition to numerous voices.
So, he phoned the police and told his brother to meet him at the home. He also traveled there with his own husband.
And when he arrived, he discovered that there were about twenty people splashing in the pool, drinking his beverages, and having a barbecue with all of the groceries he had purchased for Sunday’s party.
“Apparently, they used a ladder to jump over the wall. The wall had a ‘broken’ fence and will be replaced tomorrow. It’s the only wall that faces the street,” he explained.
If you could not have guessed, though, as soon as the perpetrators saw him, they attempted to flee the premises.
But he, his brother, and his fiancé all protected the wall and successfully kept the people from getting away until the police arrived.
“Nothing happened to anyone, just to make it clear. They just tried to get past us to go to the lowest wall but couldn’t,” he clarified.
Anyway, by the time the police arrived, the officers took stock of everyone who had been trespassing.
There were seven children between the ages of six and thirteen, twelve adolescents between the ages of fourteen and seventeen, and one adult who was thirty-nine years old.
Then, since there were obviously numerous minors present, all of the children and adolescents guardians were called, which caused a bit of drama– because apparently, after the parents and guardians arrived, they accused him of holding minors in his house without police authority.
Still, the police ultimately gave him the option to press charges against all twenty people or not. And he opted not to press charges but instead demanded that he be reimbursed for the value of the food they consumed, the price of having the pool cleaned, and the price of a cleaning lady.
“Yes, it would cost a high value because the outside area was a mess, and almost everything in the fridge was used,” he noted.
So, at that point, the adults began giving him some pushback and claiming that the scolding from the police was going to be enough to scare the kids straight.
The adults also pointed out how young people make stupid mistakes and begged him not to charge them that much money since most of the people were extremely poor.
Despite the parents’ pleas, though, he ended up standing by his decision and demanding that all of the charges be paid by Monday.
And even though he did have to deal with a lot of frustrated and cursing parents, he got all of the money.
Now, though, he has been left dealing with a different problem– more specifically, his husband’s disapproval of how he handled the situation.
Apparently, his husband believes that he was way too harsh on the kids– especially since he was already going to pay out of pocket to get the house cleaned before the party on Sunday.
To be honest, though, he does not think it is fair to pay an extra expense due to other people’s mistakes– even if the cost will not weigh heavy on his bank account.
“Young people are stupid, but they still broke into a house, used everything in it, and left a mess,” he vented.
Still, despite his own beliefs, he has been left wondering if keeping the trespassers on his property until the police arrived and charging them for the damages was the wrong way to handle the situation.
Do you think it was generous of him to only demand reimbursement and not press charges? Should people be held accountable for their actions regardless of their age or not? If you had been in his shoes, would you have done the same thing?
