She Left Her Babysitter A Chore List As An Opportunity To Make More Money While Her Son Was Asleep, But She Received Mixed Opinions About Her Idea

Many people have mixed opinions on how much or how little work babysitters should do around the house on top of watching kids.
Some believe babysitters shouldn’t have to worry about doing any housework or cleaning at all during long days or nights of watching kids, as they should prioritize the children’s schedule and entertainment above all else.
However, other people think babysitters should be able to contribute to a bit of housework, whether that be by putting away dishes after dinnertime or cleaning up the nursery before heading home.
One TikTok user recently made a video about giving her babysitter the option to make more money doing housework while she watched her toddler, and the internet had some mixed opinions.
Katrina Ivan (@kivankc) is a teacher, mom, and small business owner.
Recently, she shared with her TikTok viewers the deal she left for her teenage babysitter, who she hired to watch her two-year-old son from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm.
Since Katrina was so busy, she didn’t have much time to organize her home, and she figured since her son would be sleeping most of the time the babysitter was there, she’d give her the opportunity to make some more money.
“You are more than welcome to hang out and watch TV all night, but if you want to make some extra [money], these jobs are up for grabs,” wrote Katrina in a note to her babysitter.
Katrina then listed chores that needed to be done around the house and gave each a monetary value for her babysitter. For instance, if the sitter wanted to organize the kitchen island, she’d receive an extra $10. If she wanted to reorganize and clean the refrigerator, she’d earn an extra $15.
These prices would be on top of the $75 the 17-year-old babysitter would already make for watching her son.

Katrina posted photos of the note alongside pictures of the areas in her house she needed to be organized and asked her TikTok viewers if it was a good idea to give the babysitter the option to clean them for more money.
Most TikTok users felt Katrina’s idea was great, as it was a low-pressure situation but gave the teenage babysitter the option to make more money.
“This is such a good idea,” commented one TikTok user.
“As a babysitter, I would always clean random things but wasn’t sure if they wanted me to, so having a list [with prices] is so smart!”
However, some TikTok users felt Katrina’s prices for certain chores were too low for the amount of work she needed her babysitter to do. Following her viewers’ advice, she upped the cost of certain chores. For instance, she changed the cost of vacuuming from $5 to $10.
Katrina’s babysitter took her up on her offer and completed a few of the chores. She made $115 after one night of babysitting and completing four of Katrina’s chores. So not only did Katrina get great child care and a few of her messes taken care of, but her babysitter also had a successful night.
“She has babysat for us before, and I definitely think she’ll do it again in the future,” says Katrina in a follow-up video.
“She loved this idea.”
If you rely on a babysitter from time to time, would you consider giving them this option to get some extra housework done?
