Everyone puts so much hype around first dates. After all, first dates indicate first impressions and a lot is usually riding on them.

When you’re on a first date, you can typically tell whether you’re interested in your date right away or not.

However, in many, many cases, people aren’t exactly sure how they feel about their dates the first time around. This is why I strongly believe that the second date is just as, if not more important than the first.

A second date is where you get to know someone on a slightly deeper level and can typically decide for sure if you want to continue seeing them or cut them loose.

This is why I’d highly recommend switching things up for a second date. Grabbing drinks or dinner is fine for a first date, but you should try doing something a bit more unique on the second to see how your date reacts to certain situations.

Here are some ideas for a great second date if you’re getting ready to plan one!

Get outdoors

Usually, when I hear someone suggest doing something that involves outdoor physical activity on a date, I cringe.

However, an easy, relaxing walk or hike through a pretty scenic area is a great date idea. You’d have time to talk and get to know each other better, but there will also be things to prompt conversations, like plants, flowers, and nice views.

Go to a zoo or botanical garden

If you live in an area where there aren’t many scenic hiking trails, another great way to get outside and chat with your date is to head to a zoo or botanical garden.

The zoo is a perfect date idea if you or your date are into animals, as at the zoo, you can spend a lot of time together and easily change discussion topics by admiring cute animals.

Botanical gardens also have beautiful, romantic vibes, making it a sweet environment for a first kiss – if that’s what’s on the table!

Cook a meal or bake together

I’m one of those people who likes to cook and bake with others to hang out with in the kitchen. If you and your date are foodies, cooking dinner or baking a dessert together would be really fun.

Split your grocery bill, then split the cooking and baking tasks so you can create something delicious together.

Plus, this is an opportunity to examine how your date operates in a situation with shared tasks. Do they thrive with teamwork or get stressed out or controlling?

Go on a bar crawl

If you’re the life of the party and haven’t grabbed a drink with your date yet, consider going on a bar crawl!

You can do a happy hour bar crawl, taking advantage of some great deals early in the evening, or just take turns choosing a new bar to go to.

When you alternate picking a bar, you can see the places your date likes hanging out in. Plus, it’s also fun to move around instead of feeling stuck in one place.

Head to a museum

Museums sound like pretty typical date ideas, but it’s a solid second-date idea if you’ve only gone out for dinner or drinks on your first date.

Try to select a museum neither of you has been to so you can see new things together, or pick one with an extra interesting exhibit.

Museum dates are bound to bring on good and interesting conversations.

Hopefully, this has given you some ideas for a fun and exciting second date. Just remember to be yourself, and you’ll be fine!
