If a man tells you his marriage is broken and his wife is cheating before he’s even filed for divorce, run for the hills, especially if he just gave you a physical.

She’s grappling with a significant age gap and a massive power imbalance after her doctor turned their professional relationship into a flirtatious texting marathon. Do you think she should go on a date with her married doctor?

Several weeks ago, this young woman was experiencing some pain in her back, so she made an appointment to go see a doctor about it.

While she was in the appointment, her doctor was professional and didn’t act in an abnormal way. After she left the office, she realized her doctor started following her on Instagram.

She didn’t think that was a red flag, and then they started texting one another. Initially, their conversations were light-hearted. However, her doctor asked her increasingly personal questions as they continued communicating.

He wanted to know details of her life, her romantic history, and her hobbies. It turned flirtatious, and she still liked speaking to him, because he is smart and charming.

“Then things took a more serious turn. He started opening up about his marriage, saying it is complicated and broken. He told me about his wife cheating on him and how things have been really difficult,” she explained.

“I felt sympathy, but also confusion about why he was sharing something so personal with me. Recently, he asked me out on a date. The age gap is significant, which adds another layer of discomfort.”

“And I cannot ignore the fact that he is my doctor, so the boundary feels blurry. I keep imagining hypothetical scenarios, too. What if I go and it becomes messy, or he is just looking for comfort because of his marriage issues? What if I say no and later regret missing out on someone I connect with?”

Yes, she’s attracted to her doctor, but the whole situation is making her feel uncomfortable at the same time.

Well, the American Medical Association Code of Medical Ethics prohibits doctors from having romantic relations with their current patients, and a doctor is supposed to terminate their relationship with their patient before going down that path, as it’s considered wildly unethical.

So, there’s that can of worms, and then there’s the reality of her doctor still being a married man. That’s a no-no! Her doctor should file for divorce and sever their doctor-patient relationship before she even thinks of going out on a date with him.

What advice do you have for her? He told her his wife cheated on him, so do you think that’s a genuine moment of vulnerability, or a calculated move to make her feel sympathetic so she’ll say yes to a date?
