All couples divide up household labor differently, and in this woman’s home, she’s the one who has to take care of the kids and handle all the chores alone while holding down a full-time job, so I’m not really sure what her husband does.

Her husband apparently has more laundry for her to do than all of their other residents (her and their two little kids). So, her husband makes quite a mess.

“My husband works a blue-collar job, and [the] majority of his pants had holes in them. Last weekend, he went ahead and threw away 10 pairs of pants with holes in them. Leaving him with 3 ‘good’ pairs of pants,” she explained.

Yesterday evening, she picked up her children as soon as she was done with work and went directly to a birthday party for her nephew.

She had to drive 30 minutes away in rush hour, which left her no time to swing by the house and do any chores before departing for the event.

Her husband got home earlier than she did at 7 p.m., and she returned home from the party with the kids two hours later. Her husband was unhappy with her for failing to do anything around the house, and he waited a bit to make that known.

“I woke up this morning to the clean laundry being dumped on me, and my husband ranting that he did not have clean pants for work,” she continued.

“I said if he knew he didn’t have clean pants for the morning, he could have started a load of laundry with his limited supply of pants.”

“Then it turned into ‘I guess now I have to do everything???’ I said no, but I didn’t make it home in time last night to really do much [in the way of] chores.”

When she took inventory of the dirty clothes in their hamper, they included her husband’s jacket, a towel, two pairs of his pants, and two of his shirts.

If you do the math, that means he had one more pair of clean pants floating around somewhere, so he definitely had clean things to wear.

Her husband is so disrespectful and unappreciative of her that she should quit doing his laundry after the stunt he pulled. Laundry and all household chores are things that men and women can equally participate in, and it’s time for her husband to learn that lesson.

I’m also surprised that her husband had the bandwidth to go through all of his clothes and toss ten pairs of pants in the garbage, but doing his own laundry is elusive.

What advice do you have for her? How do you handle chore disagreements in your own relationship, and what actually works?
