When TikToker Leara (@leara.alizaa) was 13 years old, she played with a Ouija board during a sleepover with her friends. What happened was so scary that she never even wants to look at one again.
At the time, they didn’t have a planchette to move across the board, so they used a coin instead. The five girls were barely able to place their fingertips on the coin.
“All of our fingers aren’t fitting on this coin, which is how I know nobody was moving it,” said Leara. “It would have been so obvious if somebody was moving it.”
Nothing happened at first, but then a spirit started talking to them. They asked it a couple of questions, such as “Are you nice?” “Did you die in this town?” and “Do you know our names?”
The spirit said it could only tell them the first initial of their names. One of Leara’s friends goes by a name that starts with “L.” Her official name starts with an “E,” so when the spirit got her name correct, they were shocked.
When they asked if they could see it, the spirit spelled out the word “ugly,” indicating that its appearance was ugly because of the way it had died.
The spirit also said he was a boy their age. He died in a fire in town. This went on for about an hour or so. Leara lost track of time because she kept hearing someone say her name, and it was creeping her out.
But then, she realized it was just her mom calling her from another room.
A week or two later, the smoke detector in her house went off at 5:30 a.m. It continued happening for two weeks straight, even after they removed and replaced the batteries. Eventually, they just took down the smoke detector because it wouldn’t stop beeping.

“I didn’t tell my parents what I did because my dad’s a preacher, and I would have probably been banned from the house if they knew that I touched that,” said Leara.
Some of her friends experienced strange things as well. Finally, about three months later, all the weird activity stopped. Leara gathered the courage to look up the spirit’s story to see if it was true.
After doing some research, she learned that there really had been a fire in her town. One of the victims who perished in the fire had been a boy her age. The time of death, or the time that he was presumed dead, was 5:30 a.m.
In the comments section, many TikTok users shared their own stories about communicating with spirits.
“When I was 16, my friend and I played a spirit board, and her mom had pancreatic cancer, and it had told her that her dad was putting cleaner in her food and drinks. Told us where to look for said cleaner, and we dug through his closet and found some hidden deep in his clothes and insurance papers, where he had taken out insurance on her. He ended up dying before her. She’s still living,” wrote one user.
“I also used to do it as a kid. We drew it on cardboard and used a glass, and it works every time! We stopped doing it because we would speak with different spirits, but ‘mama’ and ‘zozo’ kept taking over and freaked us out,” shared another.
“We asked it to prove itself because my friend and I were arguing over who was moving it, and all six windows in her room started being pounded on at once. We were horrified. Her house was haunted after that,” added a third.
