At first, Matthew dreamed of pursuing a career as a lawyer, but then he decided that film school sounded like more of his style.

He was scared to break the news to his dad, but he did it over the phone one day.

“I was already sweating on the other end of the phone line,” he told Tom Power in an interview with CBC.

“And I’m waiting for him to go, ‘You want to what?’ But instead, real calm he goes, ‘Huh. Are you sure that’s what you want to do?’ And I immediately said, ‘Yes sir.'”

Even though he was still thinking his dad was going to freak out on him, he never did. Instead, he gave him some great advice.

“Then he gave me three words that changed my life. He said, ‘Well, don’t half-a** it.’ And I remember tearing up when he said that.”

This might come as a surprise! Matthew is pretty passionate about Airstream trailers.

When a reporter by the name of Tom Chiarella went to interview him for Esquire, he discovered that Matthew has a collection of Airstream trailers on his property.

When he hosts parties at his place, he likes to give his guests the opportunity to stay over in one of the unique trailers, and Tom got to stay in one too while doing the interview.
