This 40-year-old woman and her husband currently have four children together– two sons, who are 16 and 14, and two daughters, who are 10 and 8.

Back when she was a baby, though, her parents welcomed her into the world when they were only 16-years-old. So, she lived with her paternal grandparents while her parents attended college.

And later, once her parents were able to settle down, they had more kids who were significantly younger than her.

So, her youngest sister– who is now 22– will be getting married this summer. And honestly, she is ecstatic.

“Despite our age gap, I’ve always been close to my siblings and have been excited about my sister’s wedding,” she said.

More recently, though, an argument about her son’s attire for the event has caused some serious drama in her family.

Apparently, her 14-year-old son, named Dreyson, is currently a freshman in high school. But two years ago, he asked a girl to accompany him to the seventh-grade dance.

This initial “date” wound up sparking a romantic relationship that lasted for a little over a year. Tragically, though, Dreyson’s girlfriend ended up getting into a fatal car accident last summer and ultimately passed away.

Ever since then, her son has stayed in touch with his girlfriend’s parents. Dreyson has also held onto some of her belongings while dealing with the grief.

“It’s been tough on him, but Dresyon has amazing friends who have helped him get through this,” she explained.

It is also important to note that while Dreyson’s girlfriend and her parents were all born in the United States, her grandparents were born in Sri Lanka. So, the teen was very connected to her heritage.

In addition to that, Dreyson and his girlfriend loved watching sports together– particularly cricket. He would also go over to her house to eat traditional foods from time to time.

That’s why, for the eighth-grade dance last year, Dreyson’s girlfriend bought him Sri Lanka flag cufflinks online. She also asked that he wear them to the dance.

“He agreed, and it is something he cherishes as a gift from her,” she recalled.

Now, Dresyon did receive a good amount of gifts from his girlfriend– such as other clothing items. But, the cufflinks were the only item that would be appropriate to wear at a formal event, like a wedding.

So, with her sister’s nuptials quickly approaching, she recently took her son to go suit shopping. And after Dresyon found a suit he liked, he decided to wear the Sri Lanka flag cufflinks with it.

According to her, her son is a highly confident person who feels really good about his wedding outfit. Once they got the suit tailored and received the final version, he even snapped a few photos to share on Instagram.

This past Sunday, though, her family was eating dinner at her parent’s house when her son asked her sister and soon-to-be brother-in-law if they wanted to see his wedding outfit.

They ultimately agreed to take a look, but as soon as they saw the outfit, she realized her sister’s face had changed.

Shortly afterward, her sister then wanted to speak with her in private and ultimately asked if Dreyson could not wear the cufflinks to the wedding– because, apparently, they did not match her sister’s “wedding aesthetic.”

She was confused, though, and asked her sister to elaborate. It was at that point that her sister revealed the wedding was supposed to be a “traditional teme.” In other words, her sister did not believe that her son’s cufflinks correlated with “a traditional American wedding” and didn’t want to cause other guests any discomfort.

But quite frankly, she was still pretty appalled. And shortly after that conversation, she and her husband left to go home. Upon filling her husband in on what happened, he also agreed that her sister’s request was seriously ridiculous.

So, they decided to text her sister and say that if Dreyson was not allowed to wear the cufflinks, then their family would not be attending the wedding at all. Her sister just did not understand that, though, and wound up texting her parents and her siblings about the situation.

And since then, she has been dealing with a ton of family drama. Thankfully, some people have taken her side. But others claim that since it’s her sister’s wedding, she and her family should respect her sister’s rules.

So now, with the wedding quickly approaching, she has been left wondering whether threatening not to attend the ceremony if her son cannot wear his late girlfriend’s cufflinks was the wrong thing to do or not.

What do you think her sister means by “traditional American wedding?” How could cufflinks be distracting? Is it sweet that her son wants to wear a piece of his girlfriend at the wedding? Do you think she did the right thing standing up for her son, or did she go too far by threatening not to attend the event?
