This 30-year-old guy is currently engaged and has begun the stressful process of wedding planning.

And he and his partner opted to have their ceremony at a small venue, meaning that there was a hard cap on their guest list.

Apparently, they can only invite 105 people at the most. Then, any additional guests will not be allowed in due to the venue’s policy and fire codes.

But, he has an older sister named Mia, who he claimed has a bit of a messy life right now.

Mia and her ex– who is the father of one of her children– broke up within the past six months. And since she has four kids, Mia has been staying with them at his parent’s house until she gets their living arrangement figured out.

Despite there being a lot of drama surrounding his wedding, though, he and his partner still decided not to have a child-free event. This means that Mia’s four children– between the ages of 4 and 11– will be in attendance.

More recently, though, his sister received her wedding invitation and realized that the invite had only stated her name, as well as her kids’ names.

So, she wound up giving him a call and saying, “I assume as an adult, I also get a plus one.”

But, at that point, he was forced to tell his sister no. After all, Mia is not currently in a serious relationship.

Plus, she is already bringing her four kids– meaning that the group of five already accounts for approximately 5% of their entire guest less.

“Our caterer also doesn’t charge less for kids, so we’re paying about $400 for those kids to be there,” he added.

So, he just really does not want to pay an extra $100 for his sister to bring a random date. Mia did admit that she wasn’t dating anyone right now, either. But, she ended up claiming that she could easily find someone to bring as a date or even just a friend to go with.

Still, he stuck to his guns and told his sister that she already had her four kids going with her. So, that was more than enough, and she did not need a plus one.

Ever since their conversation, his dad has taken his side, too, and claimed to be sick and tired of Mia taking up space in his parent’s house. His mom, though, has been a bit more sympathetic about Mia’s situation– claiming that he should just allow her to have a plus one since that’s standard for adult guests.

“Spending $600 on that just seems ridiculous to me, though,” he vented.

Regardless, Mia is still pretty upset with him. So now, he’s been left wondering whether telling his sister that her four kids are her “plus one” to his wedding was a jerky thing to do or not.

Does he have a right not to want to pay $600 for Mia, her kids, and her random date? Is it enough that her four kids are already invited when the guest list cap is tight? Do you think he should hold his ground or give his sister a plus one? What would you do?
