This 33-year-old woman has a boyfriend named Sam, who is 33, and around 6 months ago, Sam’s 59-year-old mom, Rachel, moved in with them.

Rachel moved from Venezuela to the United States, and she had no money saved up since she hasn’t had a job in several years.

Rachel pays nothing towards the rent, and she also does not give her or her boyfriend money for anything like groceries or other expenses.

“My boyfriend is not financially well off- he had to file for bankruptcy a few years ago due to medical reasons,” she explained.

“I knew all of this; this is not the issue, but it is important to note. He is in a much better financial situation in comparison to the past few years and is getting better.”

Even though Sam really has no money, he’s been sending money to Rachel and to his dad as well, and his parents are divorced.

Since Sam lives paycheck to paycheck, it’s a lot for him to be sending money to his parents at all.

When Rachel expressed that she was miserable in her own country and wanted to move to the US for a better life, she felt bad for her and told Sam it would be ok for Rachel to live with them temporarily.

She and Sam live in an apartment with only one bedroom, which they moved into recently, and Rachel sleeps in the living room on a pullout couch they bought specifically for her.

She and Sam do not have the money for a two-bedroom apartment, but Rachel was fully aware of this.

Their new apartment has three closets, and they gave the one in the living room to Rachel to use for all of her clothes.

As soon as Rachel learned about what closet she was going to have, she was instantly unhappy. Rachel complained to Sam that she doesn’t want her clothes to be close to their shoes, which are already in the closet.

The thing is, the closet is really roomy, and Rachel’s clothes really aren’t that close to where their shoes are.

Later that night, Rachel still was upset, and as she and Sam set up the couch for her, she was just sulking.

Rachel never thanked them or expressed any kind of appreciation for what they were doing for her.

“I found her behavior pretty disrespectful,” she said. “We are trying to make her as comfortable as possible with what we have, but she’s sulking.”

The following morning, Rachel was still in an awful mood. When they returned home from work, her mood had not improved at all.

She honestly felt humiliated, especially since her boss dropped by to help her and Sam get furniture, and Rachel was there in her terrible mood for everyone to see.

Sam did try to speak to Rachel, though the whole conversation was in Spanish, so she had no idea what they were saying.

She decided to take the dogs out for a walk and leave. But when she returned, Rachel appeared to be acting normal again.

“The thing is now, her reaction made me feel as though she doesn’t appreciate what I’ve given up for her, what I continue to do for her and will have to do until whenever she moves out,” she continued.

“I feel as though it has soured our relationship a bit and I’m not sure how to proceed…I understand that she also has no privacy, and this is hard on her too, but we are doing all we can with what we have, and I just feel like if anyone is getting free rent, free food- they should be 1,000% appreciative.”

“Are Sam and I in the wrong with separating her closet space?”
