She And Her Husband Work Together, And At A Recent Work Social, She Joked About A Ton of Her Husband’s Flaws In Front of All Their Colleagues

This 38-year-old woman and her husband, who is 41, work at the same company. But, about a month ago, she received a promotion– meaning that she’s now in a more senior position than him.
Since then, her husband has told her how happy he is that she landed the promotion.
“But sometimes, I get the feeling that he’s embarrassed that I’m technically his superior now,” she admitted.
Just last night, they also had a work social event that was meant to build comradery and team cohesion. Her husband wasn’t really interested in going since he is quite introverted. He also claimed that he already had a migraine and did not want to make it worse.
However, she was very adamant that her husband needed to attend. After all, she thought it would look weird if he didn’t show up because people may believe he was jealous of her getting the promotion.
So, after a bit of persuasion, she was able to convince her husband to attend the event. Still, after greeting a few people upon arrival, he was pretty closed off.
According to her, her husband just spent most of the evening sitting alone in a corner and only talking to a few coworkers at a time.
Nonetheless, she felt like the rest of the evening was a success, and most of her other coworkers attended. At one point, she was also talking with a larger group when one specific coworker named Sarah pointed out how they hadn’t seen her husband there yet.
Sarah also asked where her husband was and wanted to know if he was “as serious and mysterious at home as he was at work.” This was where the trouble started.

She didn’t hold back and told everyone that her husband was the complete opposite at their house. She claimed that even though he seems organized at work, he is a “slob” at home.
Then, she proceeded to joke about her husband’s downfalls– like how he constantly leaves his laundry on the floor and complains about “trivial things,” like the neighbors’ kids playing on their lawn.
“I also mentioned how he has a fear of heights and how he was shaking the entire time when we crossed a rope bridge during our honeymoon. And I did say a few other things, like how I sometimes feel like I’m his parent,” she revealed.
Now, she claimed that everyone was super interested and surprised by what she was saying. They all shared “many laughs together,” too.
But eventually, her husband entered the conversation and quickly figured out what they were all talking about. And the discussion was downright awkward afterward.
Then, during their drive home, her husband refused to speak to her. She tried asking him if he was okay, and all he said was that she had surprised him.
“I was annoyed by him being vague, so I told him that I knew that he wasn’t feeling 100% but that he was acting childish for not socializing and acting offended,” she recalled.
Well, her husband wound up accusing her of being rude and childish for sharing so much personal information with their coworkers. Still, she just claimed that he was blowing things out of proportion– which her husband didn’t respond to.
Instead, the rest of the car ride home was silent.
Even after they got home, though, the drama was still far from over. She and her husband got into another argument about the event, and her husband thought that her behavior was appalling. He even questioned if she had a sliver of respect for him.
“But I was angry by his outburst, so I told him that he was only being sensitive because I was technically his superior now, and that was really bothering him,” she explained.
This ended the argument, with her husband claiming that he did not want to waste any more of his time. Afterward, he just went to bed.
Still, by the next morning, things were tense in their home, which is why she decided to confide in her younger sister. After sharing the details over text, her younger sister agreed with her husband and accused her of being super insensitive.
So now, she’s been left wondering whether joking about her husband in front of all their coworkers really did make her a jerk.
How would you feel if your spouse talked down on you like that to coworkers? Were her comments inappropriate, especially with colleagues? Is she in the wrong here? How can she fix it?
